I have a 2000 X1 and I scuffed my orange bodywork. (with the street)

I was wondering what year did Buell go over to the cast-in colors with no paint?

Were there some tubers that got that treatment before everything went over to XB?

All tubers went over to molded in colors, I think it was in 2002.

02 X1 was offered only in yellow, white, or black according to parts lookup.

Your color, if it's orange, is called "molten orange". My M2 was that color, I loved it. My Uly is close...something about riding a traffic cone : )

Damn.
There goes that idea.
I really love the Molten orange/reactor blue combo.

I was hoping for a no-brainer bolt-on solution.
I guess the proper thing is to buy some paint.

Any idea what kind of primer that white stuff is?

I think the white is the fiberglass gelcoat. Your X1 doesn't have the tank vapor issue since it's a seperate cover as opposed to the M2/S3/etc. Fill, sand, prime, paint : )

I was toying with the idea of masking off the good side and doing the other in bedliner.

Kinda a Twoface theme.

The scuffed side isn't really bad enough to do that though : )

What is the best way to clean bodywork?
Bug guts and other road stuff seems to stick a bit better than on metal.
I made the mistake of using buffing compound on a small portion of my front fender...99 M2

Silas,

I got this stuff Bugslide from the HD dealer. It seems to work well and leaves a kinda wax on that makes them easy to remove in the future.

2001 is when the X1 went to the surlyn type body work. I have a tank cover that got sliced if you want to know how I know. Thats also the only year that "American motorcycles" didn't make it onto the tank (or cover in this case)

I think the X1 was the only tuber model to have the surlyn body panels. Mine was Artic white/nuke blue, but I have the 2000 Molten orange body work on it now. best color combo for a tuber imho

I'd try Andy at Appleton (see sponsor section) if the paints still around he'll get be able to get it.
