I just bought a 2002 m2 cyclone. the front and rear rocker boxes leak. Is this a correct gasket set?

Or can you provide some factory part numbers?

It isn't everything you need for the rocker boxes. That gasket goes from the head to the bottom of the rocker box, but you're missing the two that go between the upper and middle covers. The Sportster P/N I have is 17030-91.

This one would do you...

Jireh Cycles has Cometic EST gasket kits for $19, and it comes with the metal lower one that will not rip like the fiber ones.

Bluses boy just got a new set from Harley, best looking gaskets i've seen for buell to date. A little more expensive but worth it. IMO.

Is this from the front rocker?

Nope - hard to see in the picture, but that looks like the result of a bad lower pushrod seal. I'd wash the whole thing down and see where the leak "starts" again.

Are these leaks from the rockers? Thanks for the help-- I am a noob!

The rocker covers are the silver pieces capping each cylinder. Can you see leaks along those lines? If not, it could be the cylinder head gasket, but your circle is around an area above that. The oil behind the engine could just be blown there while riding.

Rocker gaskets start slow and then fail completely, leaving a mess (at least they're easy to replace). Cylinder head gaskets can leak forever. At least that's been my experience, YMMV.

Great choice in bikes, by the way!

What you have circled and arrows pointing to is your head gaskets! Get a top end gasket kit, it will have everything you need.

Head gaskets wont leak much,if any oil.I had oil all over push rod tubes from oil pooling on top of the head, then ride and oil goes where it wants.

I've seen some pretty leaky head gaskets before. Your best bet is to totally clean the bike, then run it. Trace the oil from the lowest point up to the highest. One drop of oil smeared across a bike can look like a whole lot of oil. It is also very deceptive as to where it could be coming from.

Jaws the oil leaks are consistant with rocker box leaks. Unless you find after repairing the rocker box gasket leak that the base and heads are leaking I would not mess with them.

YMMV

I go along with Beachbuell to start Jaws. Spray some engine cleaner on there, get it clean and dry and run it to see where the leaks are coming from. The first pic is clear that you have rocker box leaks, as you have oil all over the cooling fins. I did have a rear cylinder head that leaked oil, just below the exhaust pipe. Oil that pools below the starter are tough to pinpoint, could be starter gasket, or could be a grommet leak like I have. Clean it up good, don't want to have to tear down twice!

If you are going to do the rocker gaskets you might as well do the head gaskets and if you are doing the head gaskets you might as well do the base gaskets. There is no sense in having to tear the bike down again to do one or the other. If you have the motor apart and are doing the job, might as well get em all done. Especially if you do not know if they have been updated. Just my thoughts.

Well I haven't had time to clean it up yet. But I looked in there with a flashlight and it looks as if the oil is coming from both rocker boxes(for sure). Now I just have to decide if the rest is leaking and if I should tear it apart quite yet. I just bought the bike bike two days ago and my mom would be pissed if I have to rip it apart already because the reason I got the upgrade was I was sick of fixing my old Suzuki 500. Would I need to take the engine out of the bike to fix the head gaskets? Thank you all for the advice so far. Just another quick question, while riding I started my right pantleg on fire. Is this normal(it was from the header on the right side.

You do not need to remove the motor from the frame for the mentioned repairs. Don't wear baggy jeans when riding I guess.

I am not wearing disco pants lol. I am wearing shift torque jeans. I think hot oil from my engine is coming off the engine and igniting my pants because there is oil spots around my huge burn hole.

Ha I think hot oil off the bike just lit my leg up. I am fixing the leak before I ride more.

BTW Jaws, you are missing a spark plug wire clamp that holds that wire up instead of it dangling like it is in the pic. Bolts to the choke bracket bolt.

Never had a clamp like that on my 2000 M2, but it sure could use it.

Interesting info is everywhere here!
