I have a customer with an S3 who wants a chrome shifter like my S2. I know an S2 unit won't work, but an S1 might? They show the same shift rod/link and front lever (mounted to the shift shaft) on both bikes, so I'm guessing the S1 shifter (that mounts to the footpeg mount) will work on the S3? |

I am not sure, but the footpeg mount is lower on the S3. Dean |

Don't think they are the same. Last year I bought the newer version shifters for my S1 and S3. They where different part numbers and looked different. In the pictures below notice the difference in the reach from the pivot point. Also how far rear the S1 shifter extends. Joe S3 S1 |

Nope, not the new style Z shifter, the old style boomerang. I don't have pics...so... The front part on the pivot shaft is the same piece, S1 and S3. The top linkage rod with the 2 heim joints is the same part, S1 and S3. The boomerang piece on the S3 is the ugly sandcast aluminum with the cast-on toepeg, which is an issue for my customer. He likes the look of my S2 shifter, which has a chrome boomerang and bolt-on toepeg. The S1 has a chrome boomerang with bolt-on toepeg. I'm guessing since the other 2 pieces of the linkage are the same between the 2 bikes, this third piece should also work OK, perhaps with some tweaking of the linkage rod or rotation of the front lever on the shifter shaft. |

The S3 boomerang has a bolt on toepeg RB. I know this from experience! Also a little elbow grease applied to the aluminum will make it look (almost) as good as chrome!

The toepeg may thread out if you really try hard, but it's made in at the factory and is listed as the same part as the boomerang. I had an M2 with the same setup - while 'removable', it's not serviced seperately. |
