Beautiful bike, very clean. There is just something about a clean M2 that stirs the soul. I think I might take the chin fairing off of mine. | ||

Yes, that's the stock shifter. I have thought about switching to the "new style" shifter, but honestly the feel of this one never bothered me. | ||

I prefer the earlier 'boomerang' shifter. The later case mounted shifters are too susceptible to damage in a lowside. Usually, just the tip breaks off on the older ones. Even if the entire shifter gets sheard off, you can kick the smaller shift-shaft lever (an off the shelf Sportster shifter!) to change gears. This was hard earned knowledge, gents. The looseness in the boomerang can be tightened with a bronze bushing kit, but even when mine was loose and floppy, it didn't keep me from hitting gears or missing shifts. | ||

Oh, and another advantage of the older shifter is that you can easily use peg risers for more clearance... that's not so simple or cheap on the later shifters. | ||

I kind of like the look of the old shifter. Something that bugs me about my M2 is the way the chain case seems to hang out on bottom. It seems bulky and distracting from the rest of the bike. Maybe with some new linkage on that side it would look better. | ||

I think with a hacksaw and a file (or Dremel) you could fix that airbox support appendix thingie. | ||

That thingie really bugged me when I got a Forcewinder. I tried to camouflage it.. I glued a deer whistle to it but it vibrated off. You can cut and trim it, but the ones I've seen always look... well, cut and trimmed. That's really the only reason I replaced my stock mount with an NRHS mount; because of that thingie. |
