Heated grips on a tuber? Specifically a '96-'98 S1. I put some Polly heaters in the bars, now I just need to figure out where to feed them from. I know someone here must have done this. I searched a lot here, but can't find much info, except related to Uly's. These Polly heaters were already installed on my used '06 Uly when I bought it. Work good! Takes a while to heat up, but when they do they are hot. I like these as they go into the bars, are short & do not interfere with bar ends, and no messing with grips or wires that rotate with the right grip. They need to turn off with the ignition switch. Could they be fed straight off of the accessory fuse location? I haven't got in there to look it over just yet. Here is a link to a couple installs on other bikes. I'd probably take power from the back of the ignition switch and ground it on the neck. | ||

I took mine directly from the battery, and stuck a fuse in that line. You'll just have to remember to cut them off when not in use, or you'll drain it. | ||

You'll just have to remember to cut them off when not in use, or you'll drain it. I've had to leave work a couple of times to go out in the parking lot and turn mine off. It seems like when it's cold enough to need heater grips, it's cold enough to keep mind from working on both cylinders. I'm not too familiar with M2s, but a relay from American Sportbike is worth it. I wanted to not cut any wires, but everything is pretty well locked in. It may help if you know going in that a splice is going to have to happen somewhere. | ||

While I'm thinking about it, if you can fit in a variable controller it will be well worth it. Aerostitch.com has some. It may be worthwhile to look for others since they seem to be on the high side. I've got the style with wires dangling everywhere. They are either too hot, or not warm enough. A trip to work involves switching back and forth a few times. I'm riding, so it's well worth all that extra effort. If I was going to do it again.... | ||

Wasn't going to have it any other way. Sooner or later you are going to forget. Got them wired in last night. Soldered in a Y-splice on the 'accessory' wire between the ignition switch & just ahead of the P8 connector plug. In line 5 amp fuse too. Grounded them on the horn ground. Those seemed to be the most convenient & closest locations. Pretty clean installation, I'm happy with it. I don't really need the controller. When it gets cold enough & it's hard to tell if they are even on. Relay not needed for this amp draw. I am surprised I didn't hear from more people that have put these on an S1 like this.
