I am having trouble with the three screws (bail fastners) that keep the bags attached to the bag support bracket on my S2T. It feels like they are not making a good connection. I can keep turning them after I meet the resistance. It only happens to one on each bag. My small bags attach fine and it only happens with the large bags I have. (I have a different set of inners and outers for the small and large setups) It almost feels like they are too short or too long to grab onto the bracket. Has anyone else had this problem or know of a solution. Here is a picture of the three screws I am talking about. Thanks for any help, Frank  | ||

I got it figured out. The little attachment screws were going to far into the bracket. It seems the rubber around the bag where the screw holes are has come off so I just added a washer and all seems to fit tight and actually stay in place.. Frank | ||

Glad I could help. I notice one on each bag coming loose in Breckenridge. I have hooks on them and can tie them together but when I hit some railroad tracks close to home Lynn thought they were going to come right off. When I got home and took the bungee cord off the right one almost fell to the ground. I might replace the regular washers with lock washers before the trek to homecoming..... | ||

I got a manifold gasket from one of my V8s and cut sections out to make "soft" washers. I RTV'd them to the backside (between bag and bracket) of the bags where the screws weren't holding tight. Now they have a nice positive latch. I also added some bracing from the rear bar to the passenger footpeg, and put an FLH saddlebag hangar screw in the bottom of each bag. I'll post some pics, but it REALLY cut down on the bag-wag and flopping. | ||

I just went to O'Reily's and got some rubber O-rings about 3/8" diameter and placed them between the bags and the bracket 'cuz I had the same problem. I would like to look into something that will stay on when I take the bags off though. | ||

Thanks Rat, I see what you did very clear. I may look into that after homecoming. I rode the S2 home in a thunder storm as well today. I put the hardbags back on to do a little test ride after work and could not get around the storm. | ||

Yeah, the worst part is, the bike was clean. Now that I have a Uly, the S2 tends not to get wet, lol. Although the good news is, I finally got a chance to try out the PR2's in the wet, and they worked extremely well  The only thing I might have done differently if I was the type to run without the bags, would be to have put the bar under (not behind) the corner of the bag and had the lockpin plate vertically mounted, with the pin thru the back of the bag like the other 3. Since I always ride the bike with bags, though, I didn't mind the idea of the tab sticking out like that. And, if I really want the bags off, it's ten screws and 2 footpegs away from the racks being removed from the bike totally. We'll have to make sure to meet up at homecoming at some point. This is the bike I'll have - I'll show you something I bet you've never seen before. An S2 with bags idling that doesn't look like it's trying to shake its bags off! Rat, our garages will be looking a lot a like. I am looking at getting a Uly and will trade the XB12R in on it but may wait until 2009. There is a Black 2006 XB12X up North at a dealership for 9,500 with the bags and some other stuff that I wish I did not see, I think it had about 5K miles on it. Of course I would hate to go on a trip and not be on the S2T. The S2T fits me better than my FLH ever did. Back to the bags. That was the first thing I thought about when looking at your pictures. I measured everything in order to run a bar under the bag to vertically mount the attachment plate. Last night I put washers on all the mounting pins (thinner ones on the ones that still work ok) and glued them to the bags with Goo... I will fit them again today after work. Since I rode home in a storm it was a good test to check for leakage and none was noted but then again I was only in the heavy rain for about ten miles. Probably not a good test. Yeah, here's a family portrait  I shouldn't say this here...but I'm just as comfy on the Uly as I am on the S2. Better wind protection on the S2, but a little more grunt (OK, quite a bit more) on the Uly. And, the wife loves the back seat! |
