Drill the end of the crack, and weld it up... Keep an eye on it, and see what it does... Chase |

I'd put more beef on that than a Wendy's triple-stack. Or replace your rubber bushings with aluminum ones. |

pathetic, take the thing off hack off their stupid support and have someone with some skill weld a new 1/4 inch steel bracket. That should be beefed up enough. Yes its silly, why didnt they do it. Well I guess its denial???????????? Hells bells there is pleanty of room to beef these brackets up. I know there was an old style but why did this have to continue. For what these cost you would think someone would have engineered something that doesnt break. Prime example of the the crap in the industry if ya aask me. well i just found an oil leak so I have to pull the entire header and starter off so I will just bring it out to the shop and get it beefed up. I will post the new improved bracket and well see what the verdict is. THANKS |

Funny, I put like 25k on a D&D Slip on, with the same mount, and didnt have a problem... even used the muffler as a skid plate a couple times on a curb or 2..... Maybe I got a good one when I had mine? Chase |

It wasn't spaced/shimmed correctly, notice in the picture the crack/break is just above the gusset. Rubber mounts only have so much "give"and sooner or later the mount will fail unless the mounts/brackets are in alignment to begin with. |

i dont even use front mounts honestly. i have special screws i found here in japan that i use that have hard hard rubber in the head that doesnt melt. i used a nutsert rivet into the slipon, and a hole drilled through the header in 3 places. once the slip on is ON, i screw the slipon to the header, and use the rear mount. its been like htat for 2 years, and no problems occured |

"Prime example of the the crap in the industry if ya aask me." Seems to be hit or miss with all the non-stock mufflers offered for tubers, even the factory race kit exhaust. I had a V&H that never went bad and I have a race kit front mount that never went bad. I still use the old fashioned front hanger, too. Hit or miss, it seems. |

I would suggest doubling up the mount. Weld two tabs of similar strength onto that pipe with a steel tube of the correct length between the two so that it uses both sides of the "Y" mount, not just the one as is pictured. |

I think what Jramsey said has a lot of merit, I have an S1 that has the same problem but it is on the header part. After it broke I could see it moved foward a bit, So it looks like it was not lined up right to begin with, Without being lined up right I think this is what causes this kind of thing. I really don't care how long it will take me to get it right, Shims washers what ever, My nuts wont be tight till then, LOL. Chuck. |

When you mount up your can make sure it isn't under any stress. It needs to hang just where you intend to secure it. Any additional stress will cause these failures. Fit it up with all the fasteners in place then tighten the headers first. I still have the original hanger on my S1 and haven't had any failures with it's exhaust. I can't say the same for my 99 S3 and it's original can and the upgraded Y hanger. Joe |

Dont bet on it. Ill bet the instructions spell out a procedure to install it. If it wasnt followed or followed they still have a way out. Stress risers or stress points have always been a fear and issue around Harley Davidson. Maybe I should just shut up, but I see these failure too often on aftermarket pipes. Are the stock pipes doing this too? Mine isnt and I have had it on and off a few times, I dont remember following space shuttle procedures doing it either. |

They did have problems from the factory, In fact on the S1 they re-did the bracket twice to try to stop the cracking. I feel the best way is what Jramsey said, Get it lined up right and then you at least have a chance if not it is sure to crack. |
