Nice to be here. I'm the new owner of a 2002 M2 and very excited about it, but my speedo isn't working. I'm technically savvy but new to motorcycle maintenance. Can anybody tell me where to start?

Is the speedometer totally dead (no lights or tripmeter) or is it just the speed indicator needle not working?

my speed sensor went out on the first m2 a few times. one time it burnt a hole through it from the inside. no idea how that happened, but i saw it.

+1 on the VSS. Welcome to the board and where's a picture of the bike?

You may be able to pull it out and clean it off to get it to work. I was able to do it once before mine crapped out totally. They were about $65 or so last time I bought one.

Seems like a really common problem on M2s. My speedometer needle was bouncing a lot when I bought the bike, but it's pretty much dead now. I only just recently noticed that while the odomoter/trip meter comes on it doesn't move with the needle at 0. Sadly I've driven several hundred miles while this problem. I have no idea how many miles were never picked up by the odometer. The good news, I never intended to sell my M2 with low miles.

I have the same problem, however the trip odometer is not work too. Would it be the speedo sensor? And where is this thing located?
