I just picked up s3 hardbags with the mounting brackets from the infamous Bartimus. Thanks Bart and great to meet you! We need to go riding once everything is running well.

I found a couple of links on doing the conversion but would like to hear first hand what everyone else did to get it to fit onto the S2. Bart said a couple of L brackets to the rear pegs should do it. Hopefully its that easy. TIA!

I wanna see this... I have the stock narrow hardbags now but would like to see what it's like with S3 bags.

S2 with S3 bags

I put the S3 bags on my S2 (with the proper bracket to do so) many moons ago. As straight forward of an install as there is. The only problem - for me, due to the stands I have - is that I have to remove the bracket (and therefore tail section) whenever I change a rear tire as my stand to remove the back tire uses the passenger peg mounts to lift the bike.

Can you take a picture of the bracket or give me the part # or maybe both? And thats all I need since I have everything else?

These should help! Unfortunately I don't have the complete instruction sheet scanned, and I'm not sure how soon I could lay my hands on it (and starting next Saturday I will be out of the country and/or on vacation until July 9th).

S3 bags on S2

S3 bags on S2 2

Thanks, I dig it! To the tune of 116,000 + miles.

Any ?'s, let me know,

What gets me is Figure 1 and figure 5 are two totally different saddle bag mounts. figure 3 and 5 could be the same but it doesn't have a full view of figure 5 so it could actually be figure 1 also. Figure 1 has the rear mounting bracket welded on oppose to number figure 3. Figure 3 doesn't have the rear bracket which is why they're clamping the lower piece. I have the bracket from figure 1. So the way that I see it from the directions is all I have to do is is bolt the sucker on and I'm good to go. I don't have to deal with figure 3 because that bracket is possibly the older bracket for the S2. Am I right? The figures I'm talking about is in the link below.

What are those clamps suppose to clamp on to? If they gave a full view of it installed I wouldn't be confused.

Here is what my bracket looks like still attached to a cut off rear tail section of a S3.

All the figures in the pdf file show the same bracket. The picture you've posted appears to be a stock S3 saddlebag bracket, which is different than the bracket to mount the S3 saddlebags on an S2, which is altogether different than the original S2 saddlebag bracket.

Hope this helps, as I'd rather not remove the tail section off my S2 in the 100° temps we've been having recently. If it comes down to it, I'll do it - and sweat my arse off in the process.

1313,
You have the bracket Buell sold to adapt the S3T bags to the S2 on your bike?
97S1 does in fact have the "stock" S3T brackets. I do remember seeing somewhere that they could be adapted to the S2 frame.
Your paperwork looks like it can be done by mounting them close to how yours are.
All that is needed is the little Adel clamps to clamp it to the S2 frame...

According to H-DNet, it looks like most, if not all, of the parts in that kit are still available, although I couldn't find a part number for the entire kit. Just an FYI from an interested S2/S3-T owner...

P.S. Brankin, hope to get to meet you at Homecoming. You going to the Dinner or to see the Thunderbolts?

The part # for the saddlebag conversion kit is Z0725.8YAE. This is everything mounts and bags. This # maybe for the carib-candy blue lids. I just could not pay $1850. for this kit but it is nice. I went with soft bags from nelson riggs. Nice large bags for about 85.00. If you need any other #'s let me know I have the parts break down.

97S1 has the 1999 saddlebags, AND the stock 1999 saddlebag mount brackets.
He wants to know how to modify the existing 1999 S3 brackets to fit on his 1995 S2.
This mounting kit looks like a bracket assembly that replaces the stock S3 brackets, to adapt the S3 bags to the S2, correct?

Bart is correct. I think I'm going to weld up some mounting points to make it work next weekend. That should do the trick. I'll take pics if I do.

Question:

I am about to order the S3T to S2 conversion bracket . . .spendy sucker that it is . . .but need to know if it will accept the S3 hard bags I just purchased. The instruction sheet mentioned above shows the later model inner bags . . .those that use the levers rather than the twist-to-lock latches.

Does anyone know if, other than the latch change to levers, if there are any other fitment changes that would keep my earlier style hard bag inners from clamping onto the bracket noted in the kit? Simply put, are the brackets/inners the same the entire 1998 through 2002 S3T run?

Thanks in advance,

Don

Don,
You should have no problems. Early bags will mount on late frames and late bags on early frames. There were some design changes in the lids and they got rid of the knurled head in favor of the levers, but mounting locations are the same. : )

Ditto V2win's comments. I'm currently running an old style inner on one side and a new style on the other.

Thanks John and Roger! As of today, the bracket is on order . . .I appreciate your insight and assistance.

The next problem . . .The S3 bags I bought do not have latches. I had hoped to order latches with locks today, but found that they are "restricted" and cannot be ordered without a VIN# . . .this is problematic in that I don't have a 1998-2002 Buell and the S2 numbers get kicked out. Has anyone run into this before . . .and more importantly, been able to secure locks and keys for hard bags without the requisite VIN#?

Thanks once again in advance . ..

Thanks, Josh . . .Sir Court has graciously offered to pursue a solution via his East Troy connections, too. Betwixt the two of you I am sure to have locked hard bags on the S2 in no time!

Don,
PM sent. Seems only fair in return for the files I've downloaded. It's for a '99. If they need something earlier, I'll dig for number of the '98 I totaled.

FWIW, What is the advantage of modifying an S2 to an S3 bag setup?

Better latching and more weight capacity.
