That clamp that is held together by an allen screw where the cables go to the carb. What does it do? When I reassembled my M2 today, I thought that it should clamp on the cable ferrules because if it rides higher up on the cable housing it is too big to clamp anything. Now I see that all the pictures in the manual seem to show it higher up. Do the cables just slide through it loosely? I think I put the thing together wrong, although it runs great with the new pilot jet. I would hate to have to take the air intake off again. That thing is a pain to assemble.

This clamp must be something on the later models, my 98 M2 has no such clamp

There's also a nifty explanation on them in Badwebs' very own Knowledge Vault!

BUELLers:

This Throttle Cable Clamp is on there for SAFETY !!!

There should have been a recall on Harley-Davidson/BUELL motorcycles with this CARB./THROTTLE situation ...

This recall was only on later BUELLs(Tube Frame Models) ...

The first time "i" had the gas tank off "i" recognized this as a SAFETY ISSUE which comes from racing ...

My Safety Correction on was to SAFETY WIRE the throttle cables on my 1997 S3T to the carb. throttle cable bracket ...

OK, so it clamps on the ends of the cables to keep the cable from popping out of the carb. Looks like a good idea and I installed it correctly. The documents refer only to fuel-injected bikes and Blasts but apparently later M2s got them too. Thanks!

I don't think I've had that clamp properly (re)installed since I rejetted my carb for the first time in August of 2000.

Glad I read this...
