Well, Im now a believer!
DDFI can work as well as a carb, if not better...
I was having problems with my DDFI on a 2000 S3t...Twas pretty much gonna junk the system, till some of those bros here gave me sh-t and told me to sort it out...
Well, after a 100 mile test today @ 50f outside, They system worked flawlessly...
Scott and Joe helped me out here as well as I reprogrammed the HD dealer on how to properly do a TPS reset as well as and AFV set to 100 .....This bike goes like Hell...
So, I guess the moral of my story is:
Old dogs can be taught new tricks and DDFI can work better than a carb....
I agree, the simplicity of a carb is far easier for Us old school scooter tramps, But with some help to understand and willingness to learn, one can make this new fangled stuff work just ducky...
So, as Forest Gump would say
" Thats all I got To say about That"
Thx Bros.......Hankb...

You forgot one thing, Hank.

Now that it's right...you won't have to mess with it again. Weather can change, temps can change, you can ride at sea level or at altitude...the bike will behave the same no matter what.

Now you see why my bare S2 frame is going to get an EFI S3 or X1 powertrain : )

Wait till you run EFI with a hot rod motor and a big throttle body!! Big fun!

Hank - I know what you mean about archaic. While I lovelovelove my S2, riding it back to back with my Uly it really is quite a bit slower. Gonna have to fix that....lol

I love the injection on my X1 : ) Only fault I've ever had with it was an engine temp sensor.

Correct me if I'm wrong... The X1's and injected S3's have no air pressure or air flow sensor, so they can't adjust for altitude?
(Having said that I guess the O2 sensor will adjust for altitude, but not as quickly as a pressure sensor would)

How much learning ability is built into the X1/S3 injection? Do they store much info? I get the impression it's less than XB injection system.

They extrapolate how much air is going in by know in the throttle setting, air temp, and RPM.
Then fine tunes the AFV by paying attention to how much Oxygen is coming out the other side.

Pretty miraculous that it works at all, let alone as well as it does : )

So you can see how fungling up the TPS zeroing process can really ruin your low throttle response.

Luckily I've never had to touch the TPS on mine, seems to have been right from when I got it.

Had to do a little research to find out about AFV (Adpative Fuel Value). That covered my question about learning ability. Do the X1/S3's calculate the AFV the same way as the XB's or differently? The reason I ask is that the earlier bikes seem to have less of the low rpm problems that the XB12's seem to suffer.

I do not know much about what is different about the XB system, I believe they are much the same if not identical in operation.
Any kind of rough running is unlikely to be cause by the AFV.
More likely the map required to keep the EPA happy is causing the problem.
The AFV takes reading from a fairly narrow range of operation and applies the correction to the entire map.
Singe that range is not low rpm, it will not compensate for a low rpm problem.
Data logging or running on a dyno and remapping using ECM SPY is the cure.
