the tank has been attempted to be painted twice now on a 97 S1 with little success. after the clearcoat, during the curing process, the paint bubbles out. is there any specific technique or paint combination that will resist the bubbling?? are there any aftermarket tanks or upgraded tanks that i could get instead, that will resist the bubbling? thanks all! | ||

Did the tank get cleaned really good before spraying?? Are they bubbles or fish eyes (if so, try fish eye remover in the paint)?? What kind of paint are you using? Are you using a primer coat?? Have you tried a sealer coat?? | ||

if you can find them, i think they started making replacement small tanks in 99 or 2000 you can tell the difference because the letters are raised not the old school sticker, there have been lots of posts on the topic of repainting those tanks, do a search of badweb and you will find plenty,if i remember correct it all has to do with your primer, uber thin coats or something | ||

I had mine repainted 2 yrs ago...guy did a great job and guaranteed it for lifetime...I dont know what he used...but it came out great | ||

Al at American Sport Bike was kind enough to pass this around... I'd consider the source to be as valid as they come. This info came directly from the good folks at Buell that were kind enough to forward it to me when I'd asked about how to prevent paint bubbling on Buell Tube frame tank repaints. This is what they use to paint the tanks originally, and Buell hasn't had a problem with PAINT bubbling, only decal bubbling. They won't warranty that if you follow the info contained herein that you won't have paint bubbling, but I'm guessing you won't have a problem if you follow it.
