Author Message   Natexlh1000 Posted on Sunday, April 27, 2008 - 08:08 am:        For almost a year, I had a Uly belt along with me for long trips. Friday night, my belt finally died. A belt that I THOUGHT was a ulysses belt. My replacement belt didn't fit. It was too long. Even with the adjusters maxed out, it was too loose even to move under its own power.   Langperf Posted on Sunday, April 27, 2008 - 08:59 am:        I thought it was common knowledge Uly belts were longer. Was there an apparent reason your belt failed. (I have a 98M2 and changing one on the side of the road is not an option, I know the X1's are much easier)Lots of miles on it? It lasted about 35,000 miles. Previous belts snapped clean when taking off in first gear. This recent one lost the teeth! odd eh? I thought this belt WAS a uly-belt but I was WRONG all this time. Once I got the right belt, replacement was like 20 minutes though. The first one was a sportster-style belt and it lasted the longest at about 42,000. The second one I had crapped out under 17,000 miles and it said "Sportster" on it. The only belt that they had in stock that would fit says "Sportster" on it so it's probably not going to last so long.   Joesbuell Posted on Wednesday, April 30, 2008 - 02:44 am:        Stock belts for Firebolts and lightnings are the same as tubers at 128Teeth, Uly and Lightning longs are 135 Teeth. I run the 135 on my Buell. I'm taking it that is a tongue in cheek comment. The only difference between the old tuber belts and the Sportster belts is the printing. From my experience, belt failures ripping teeth of are usually from the belt being set too loose. 1313   Natexlh1000 Posted on Monday, May 05, 2008 - 10:45 am:        Perhaps you are right about it being too loose. I'll pop the rear shock off and see what it's like with the suspension bottomed out. My previous two belts both failed by snapping apart.
