Thunderstorm heads, pistons and cams. Still won't pull down low like the S1 unless you change the belt drive gearing (S2 is taller for cruising, S1 is shorter for acceleration), but on my S2 those changes seem just about perfect. If you want to go a step further, check out [non-sponsor promotion redacted]- a 1250 with XB heads would work really well too : )

If you want to smoke an S1 with an S2 then start in Reno, ride to 'Vegas, turn right and ride to Palm Springs, turn right and ride to Tahoe, turn right and ride back to Reno, three right turns is all it takes to smoke an S1 with an S2. ; )

Pizzyboy,

How much are you willing to invest? Are you wanting to do the engine work yourself--I'd strongly advise against that--or are you wanting a local shop to handle the work, or are you willing to crate up the engine and send it to the top professionals in the field?

I'd unplug one of his spark plug wires before we squared off.

Wise words I first heard from over the counter at Comp Sales about 30 years ago:

"Speed costs money. How fast can you afford to go?"

i dont mind having some engine work done. i am leaning towards the 1250 kit with some mildly ported heads.

im going to start with the bolt on basics though.. like a single fire ignition, the carb and such.

and yes, mikej... i still can slap him silly on long trips; he cant hang from even reno to tahoe, where my bike laughs at the twisty's all the way up and is still comfy 200 miles later.

.. i want to have that snappy power that the S1 engines have, though... the HVPS engine cant be that much different to the stock sporty engine that's in mine, right?

Well... once you get some heads, and some head work, and some cams... no, not too much different..

A 1250, with XB heads, and some good portwork to make a set of 536 or 585 cams...

The lightened internals on the 2000 and up engines...

THEN, you will be good to go...

its a 97 S1. i believe it has a couple mods to it over the factory dressings... it has streetfighter exhaust manifold and muffler, screamin eagle carb of some sort and forcewinder intake...it also has the chain-drive conversion and im not sure if it retained its stock gearing with it.

where is the best place to find thunderstorm stuff??

Eh....

like I said..
1250, XB heads(with the works), some good cams, 2000 and up internals, and you will spank him...

sell it, and go buy an x1

and i would be more than happy to do that but that would kind of defeat the purpose of spanking an S1 with an S2.. wouldnt it??}

Depends on your point of view?

If you utilized the S2 to aquire the X1... then, you are effectively using that S2 to spank the X1.....

how about if i use the S2 to aquire a 98S1w? haha or even better yet... to buy the 1125r thats in my future next spring??

i think i have a fixation on my S2, though. i really do enjoy it, but it seems like it has a LOT more potential than where its at at the moment.

i do like the above formula though... i think i may very well spring for that 1250 and XB head action.

Listen to Chase and Blake. I'd keep it and do the mods listed with help from a knowledgable mechanic but do it in a 'sleeper' fashion so your buddy has no idea whats going on when you waltz past him with the sh-t eating grin.

PB. One other thing to consider is he is geared differently than you,S-1 came with 27t front,S-2 came with 29t front pulley. That alone gives him big start on you.
A 1250/heads/cams set-up with a 27t should give you plenty.

Aerocharger Turbo. The stock heads and pistons have low enough compression that it is just a bolt on. Yippee! A 95 S2 in town had one. Pretty wicked.
