1) I war a suit so I don't know.

2) What pressure is the front tire at? Is the tire worn?

3) No. just lean forward to put more weight on the front.

JT heat is likely the pipe / Engine, I have never noticed heat that high up or on my fanny.

the others are like Nate said, the X1 is sensitive to tire issues.

BTW try a set of Continentals, I run the Road Attack Tires and get good service.

The heat is affectionately known as " Buell leg". Quite common. Twitchy steering could be bad tires, maybe steering head bearing? Try firming up the front suspension settings. Damper wouldn't hurt, though consensus is it is primarily for high speed wobble.

Michelin Power Race or the Pirelli Super Corsa are my favorite on this bike...

The cupping that occurs easily on some tires, really upsets the chassis, and can cause a wobble.

Also, make sure you ARE NOT leaning on the bars, and producing feedback, which in turn will make things worse...

If your oil bag is cooking you leg, there is a SERIOUS problem. That said, like was stated, it is your rear pipe... that thing can get DAMN hot... especially in low speed/stop and go traffic, with minimal air moving over it... but, you will still feel it going down the highway...

Steering damper? Who needs it...

Proper steering head tension negates the need for a steering damper. Bikes that have been poorly serviced, or that do lots of wheelies (Even high-torque bikes like these, that produce lots of front-end lift, without necessarily lifting the wheel), will require frequent servicing of the steering head bearings.

you will be cooler in most situations if you wear riding pants or overpants (you should anyway for safety).

JT You can get all 3 pieces in CF for about a grand. American Sport Bike has them all.

i feel heat mostly in traffic, just a slight warm once moving on the road.

i had high speed wobble issues when i first got my bike, a head tube bearing tighten stopped all that twitchy feeling, carefull on over tightening of the bearings, there is a procedure to follow.

look on ebay for cf, much cheaper than American Sport Bike.

i might be interested in an all black set, is it a 3 or 4 piece set? chin fairing?

Thanx Limited, I have been w/out a front fender for so long,I forgot there was one. It does take 4 pieces to cover an X1. I need only 2 as all I have left is tank cover and flyscreen. As soon as I have the cash, I will be going to CF. Matter of fact I will sell all 4 pieces ( red ) for 250.00 plus shipping. Condition is 9 of 10 for all but the tank panel ( 8 of 10 ). Has some wear in belt area, but now covered w/ protector.

Jersey, what do you mean when you say twitchy? High speed, cornering, doesn't hold a straight line? All these have different remedies. Heat on your leg, check if your bike still has the heat shield under the seat many people take them off. P.S. I'm in central Jersey too

Twitchy as in light front wheel sound about right. I try keeping my tank top off when I go out to play. The extra 20lbs. help keep the wheel down. BUT if its wondering on you, try dropping your air pressure 5 psi. JERSEY THUNDER I love your area!!! I'm in Bridgewater and the twisties rock here too!

I got a good test for you...

When you feel it getting twitchy...

Let go of the bars....

See what happens....

I mean that seriously....

Well sir.. when you let go.. and get no problems...

The problem(no offense), is the rider..

And by that...

Your positioning, grip, wieght, leverage, etc, all contribute to how the bike reacts to things like wind, potholes, grooves, etc..

if you are grabbing to tight on the bars.. or, leaning too much ON them.. you WILL get feedback, and that will lead to the twitchy, wobbly/and possibly, a tank slapper...

Try next time you go out for a ride...

Use your LEGS to hold your upper body in position... practice it in the garage first..

You have it, when you can let go of the bars, and you still stay in the same position...

THEN, lightly, grab the bars...

The amount of force needed to control a bike at speed is surprisingly minimal...

hook your fingers over the grips.. with 1 or 2 fingers over each lever...

Only use enough force to maintain your grip... and control of the controls...

Try a ride like that...

It will be a littl akward at first, and might even cause a bit of discomfort in your thighs... BUT, once your body gets into that
rhythm... it will feel so natural...

The other part of the twitchiness is the aggressive geometry of the bike...

Give it a whirl..

BUT, practice the technique with the bike on the stand first...

Pretty much what ever you want in 7/8 bars..

I have run dirt bike bars for a little lower than stock, and cheap..

I was running a set of K&N Clubman bars from a member here, but, they didnt fit right, so, I ran them upside down...

And, now, I am running CrossRoads Perf bars(second set I have run on this bike).. which for the way I ride my bike... they are perfect..
