Well, here it is...

I am POSSIBLY working a deal with someone to trade my Buell for a car. Not that it really matters, but its a 95 E Class benz...

BUT, its being discussed.. and even considered because.. diesel is 4+ a gallon.. and, with the kid and all...

Anyway...

First off, what do ya'll think of that?

Second, would anyone want me to hang aroudn the board for anything?

Lemme know...

I am completely up in the air on this...

I'm a little confused as to exactly just what the heck you are talking about......but if you just gotta go make yourself Buelless; I don't think nobody's not gonna love you any more, and I think you can continue to contribute here just fine. Everybody will surely question your sanity, but you gotta do what you gotta do if you figure out just what that is.

Diesel? RUN AWAY! Why would you trade a user friendly, gas saving, very unique machine for a diesel car?

Okay for clarification...

My cage is a F250 with a wound up PowerStroke...7.3.....

Keeping fuel in this(especially with MY right foot) is financially painful.

The other "cage" would be a 95 E class benz, with a I6.

BUT, based on the set of conditions tossed out over the last hour or 2...

I am thinking I am gonna pass....

But, more on that later... but, the car just left here, and I dont think I could consider trading my pride and joy for a beat DOWN Benz....

For what its worth...

I was parked next to the Big Dog Chopper of one of the guys I work with... and my bike STILL got more attention... 'nuff said...

Good choice -- find an old Escort wagon on craigslist they run forever and you can pick'em up for $600 -- 30 mpg -- glad to see you are staying -- Bneck

Former multiple Benz owner here. I'd be really hesitant to own anything from the mid 90s on. The cars they built in the 70s and 80s were truly lifetime machines - if you lived outside the rust belt, you could keep driving and fixing an MB forever, pretty much. The reliability WAS outstanding.

Newer MB models are cranky, unreliable beasts that are loaded with too much electronic gadgetry. The price of admission in many cases pales in comparison to the ongoing cost of remaining in the club, not to mention the inconvenience of having your expensive German machine sidelined due to issues.

In that way, they are sort of like modern BMW motorcycles - but worse.

You'll be happier if you stick with your Buell.

My brother in law bought an old Mercedes diesel. The body was beautiful - it was a 70s era - almost a barn find type of car. He got a great deal on it, but it died on him about a month later. Cost him $3,000 bucks to fix it because all the damn parts were now basically collector's items and nobody actually drives cars like that on a daily basis much anymore.

Sorry, couldn't resist this one

Then there are these if you want better mpg in something new
http://www.smartusa.com/
You could park it in the bed of your pickup.
But for the $11K I think I'd be shopping for a used car.

No worries guys... I am not in hardship...

BUT, the price of diesel is making me... nervous.

I was thinking about selling it.. but, private sellers are having a TOUGH time selling much of anything diesel.. so..

BUT, one thing I am certain of, my insurance wont be happy with me if I bring another cage into the equation....

Plus, my landlords...

Though, there IS someone I started talking to last night, about possible trade of my powerStroke for a 300ZX Twin turbo... though, it doesnt really have much in the way of a back seat....

Oh well...

Just have to keep the driving to a minimum... 108 bux to top off this morning.

I hear you on the diesel worries, but remember, you use the same fuel as every trucker out there. They wont let diesel get to high before they start making people disappear

Yet you are thinking of selling the bike? : ? Sell the truck! If you need a truck then find a nice used F150 with the six cylinder, or better yet a Ranger. Remember, the truck doesn't make the man.

Logic is one of my specialities you know. joker

Hey Chasespeed, email me with the details of your truck (year, miles, condition, etc) and some pics if you can. I might be interested.

FIRST...

I really have NO DESIRE to sell the truck...

Second, selling it would be damn near difficult, if not impossible...

My buddy has had his for sale for 10k for 6 months... wont sell...

Anyway...

All is well, I am just making adjustments to my life style..

And Blake, I know the truck doesnt make the man, nor does the bike.

The man makes the man, and his accomplishments define him...

I am a pretty secure individual... been through alot over the last 9 years..and accomplished alot.. not he least of which is being a father to a beautiful little girl...

I've put my deposit down on a VW Jetta Diesel SportWagen. ( 41 of 70 in this years batch ) Then Diesel go's up towards $4.50...... still, it's twice the efficiency of my Minivan.

Diesels will still be economical if the mpg/$pg ratio is good, the problem is that U.S. refineries are geared to gas production, and it's inherent in the cracking method. Europe gives a major tax break for diesel, and their hydrocrack method produces more diesel than ours.

The 7.3 powerstroke has huge brass ones, and I understand the right foot problem.

Build your own electric S-10 Pick-up. Like the guy did on the evening news. He just pulled the gas motor and installed 12 24 volt batterys in the back. Or something like that, I'm not an electrician. He plugs it in through the gas cap door at home for a few bucks a week and drives 60 miles round trip to work everyday. Smart old coot. It's labeled "electric" and people wave and go nuts when they see Him on the road. What model Buell? Please keep one around. TT

The real advantage to diesel is not whether or not the fuel you put in the tank is $0.75 more or less than it's unleaded counterpart. The real advantage is that you're driving something that runs on a fuel that not everyone else uses.

My dad drove a diesel Benz throughout the 70s and not once did he have to wait in a gas line.

Also, it's the fuel that the nation's infrastructure runs on so you know that diesel will be available even in an era of rationing and shortages.

CHASE, just change your settings on your F250s computer and you will be fine! 20+mpg. Earlier shifts, lock up converter and lean it out! Trust me after you sell your truck you will soon remember why you had one and regret it!

the only way MINE will ever see 20+, is with someone else driving... MUCH smaller tires...

Better grearing, etc...

BUT, I am not gonna sell it... I am hanging on to it...

THOUGH, it seems(unless something strange happens), I will be re-claiming my 2wd Rodeo from the person who is supposed to be paying me for it...
