several years ago, there was a pictorial on adapting xb rocker boxes to the tube motors...i cant find it!..i did the search and ask in the knowledge vault, but i dont think anyone goes there anyway...it seemed that you throw away the middle rocker box or something like that...i found all the part numbers and ordered the parts, but no pictorial...anyone know where to find it?

I think there the same as newer sportsters. Only two piece and a way better breather system. The one for the sporty vents the same as our tuber's but has a better check valve set up in the rocker box.

they go on the same as the stockers if i remember correctly, you may need to trim the front to clearance the front box for the front of the frame.

thanks all, but i guess im not wording my question correctly...im looking at my xb and it appears that you should trash the center piece on the stock rocker covers... second, the location of the pcv valve is in question....if you look at the pics, the covers on the right have the same part numbers as thoses on the left...however, the location of the pcv hole is different.. (the ones on the right were sent to me first) (they are oriented in the pic, per part number front and rear) (i checked with the dealer and they are clueless...all have the same number stamped inside...wtf?.. mabe it doesnt matter up or down and maybe it does..i guess i will need to use xb gaskets also...

i guess i can pull the top off my xb and look, but maybe its different depending on model...

Did the conversion of my X-1 some time ago, and it is fairly easy and straight forward. Yes, you do trash the center spacer. As to the front cylinder, the pcv valve location doesn't seem to matter, lots of room there. Did have to do a bit of minor filing on the cover to get it to clear the front motor mount/rocker arm so it could be installed.

The rear cylinder is a bit more tricky, at least for me. The way the bottom of the gas tank is shaped, the pcv valve had to be located over the intake valve (cover on the lower right of your picture), and I shaved the top of the pcv valve to provide a bit more clearance. YMMV. Hope this helps, Dave

The numbers on the parts are casting numbers. The actual part number is assigned to the part after machining. If you look, you'll see that all 4 of those are made from the same "base" part, the hole for the breather determines front or rear use.

If you ordered those, and that's what you got, either your parts lackey ordered two of the same, or someone at Buell screwed up.

My previous post is assuming for use on XB's. Dave's advice is more accurate than mine for Tube-frame use.

the top two are the same part, with different part numbers on the box...the bottom two are different with the same part number on the box...the funny part, is all seemed to be sealed boxes from the factory... so i guess i need to know is hole facing up or down...
