Well, picked up the bike today. The newly installed NRHS bases are leaking badly. Dealer has ruined the seals by improper installation. My ? is, can you use the stock HD seals? If not I have to wait for new seals from NRHS. Thanx | ||

I spent hours trying to correctly install those bases, never got them in without leaking. Those damn seals just kept popping out - usually on the cylinder side so they could not be persuaded back in with a screwdriver. My suggestion - get a set of stockers in case you run into the same thing, and after your final frustration you will be able to put the stock ones on and be leak free. Sorry about getting carried away - but to answer your question - I can't recall if the stock seals will work with the NHRS bases but if I remember correctly they wont. | ||

i "thought" i had read that you could use the stock seals and that was the best way to get a leak free seal. Not completely sure though. | ||

The blue seals with the NRHS bases are a little Bigger (IIRC) than the stockers. Personally, I will never go back. I had messed around with the stock stuff... and, it seems after a period of time, hey just wont seal... Got hte NRHS seals and bases... money well spent.. Mine have been out a couple times. I thought the NRHS bases were supposed to be compatible with stock o-rings. I remember a conversation (on another forum) where a guy who thought he had a better idea approached NHRS but they didn't like it because it wouldn't work with the stock o-rings... something like that. I still have the blue o-rings in my NRHS bases. In hindsight, the bases look cool and haven't leaked (the stock ones never leaked) but the difficulty of installation with the stock one piece pushrod tubes is a real chore. The NRHS bases are probably a better idea for racing engines with solid lifters and collapsible tubes. They really don't offer much on mild street duty engines except that zooty look. They weren't expensive at all though... and they still aren't leaking where maybe the stock ones would (that never happened though). They do look cool... | ||

Thank you very much. Hopefully I will have the bike back today as they have the stockers on hand. |
