First of all, Hello! I just found this forum googling for leaking rear shock. Seems great so far and I even found a handful of topics about this issue already. Problem is I am Swedish, so I can't really go to California and have my rear shock fixed... Anyways.. Was considering to buy a used one on Ebay, but was not sure if any X1 shock will fit? Or maybe even S1/M2/etc ones would? Anyways.. Any help would be very appreciated! Greetings from land of blondes, Mika. |

Measure the distance between the mounts. There are a couple different sizes. Click here... http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/476 23/346993.html?1206556767 You could send it to Aftershocks in Cali (palo alto, ca.) to be rebuilt. Although shipping would be high, buying a used shock is a gamble and could end up costing you more. (Message edited by TORQUEMONSTER on March 26, 2008) |

Uh huh! I will measure it tomorrow when sun's up again. I have found a rear shock on a crashed bike for like 10USD I wonder if I can take parts from it and put on my own to stop the leakage? Would be nice and cheap =) And btw, my bike: http://www.psnz.net/bullen |

Welcome to the BadWeB Mika. I recommend an upgrade to an aftermarket shock. The improvement to ride quality and handling is significant. Works Performance and Penske each provide good products. Possibly the folks at Hillbilly Motors in Deutchland, one of our sponsors, can point you in another more easily obtainable shock solution there in Europe. Jens of HillBilly Motors is top notch, so you'll be in good hands dealing with him. Don't tell him I said that though. Blake PS: Nice custom paint job on your X1. |

Welcome to the badweb! The one catch with the OEM shocks is, they are not user-rebuildable. If you are going to buy a used shock from somewhere (or even a new one), I'd recommend either a Works Performance, or a Penske. Both of those shocks are not only light-years ahead of the OEM Showas in terms of performance, but they are user-rebuildable with standard tools and access to a speed shop (or understanding dentist) with a Nitrogen filling station. Used Works or Penske shocks can be had from time to time for a very reasonable price, and being rebuildable it is not as much of a "buyer beware" situation; new Works are priced comparably to a new OEM Showa. New Penskes can run upwards of what some folks pay for their bikes...but they are one of the best, bar none. It all depends on what you are going to do with the bike and how you plan to ride it. I bought a used Penske for my S1W because when I ride it, I'm riding it hard. Every time. My S2 just got a new Works; the original was leaking, and dollars to dollars I decided to go with the rebuildable unit instead of another OEM shock. I wasn't as worried about max handling performance on the S2 (although the Works really is worlds better than the OEM), that bike is just a commuter...but I didn't want to have to buy another shock ever again. Seals and bushings? Sure...but never another shock. I also firmly believe a Tuber only looks right with an exposed rear spring |

Question: I found a used rear shock here in Sweden! I can get it real cheap and quick. Prob is his eye to eye measure is 370mm (14.6 in), and the one that is mounted on mine is 430mm (16.9 in). Can I use the shorter one on mine? I am aware it will change the height of my bike but is it actually possible? And how come his bike was same model and year as mine and still shock is different?! |

There was 2 different lenght shocks... There are also 2 different fron mounting arms... With the shorter shock you need the longer arm, and vice versa... Should be pretty easy to aquire.. .well, given your location, maybe not... but, a dealer should be able to order it for you, allowing you to use the shock your buddy has.. Chase |

If you have the old Showa, you may be able to get something done through Buell. I also have a 2K X1 and Buell replaced mine just last year at no charge. I w/ at least call their customer service and run your VIN. |

The recall kit has been discontinued, so even it customer service agrees to fix it, no parts are avail. |

This should clarify. Both are currently on eBay.

The very strong one is the latest and greatest Buell piece, and is also the short one, thus requiring the different arm, as illustrated. They seem to not fail as often, also. |

Maybe the kit itself isn't available, but I am pretty sure all of the parts/pieces in the kit are. I had mine done 8 months ago, hard to believe I got the last one. Buell has to have something. If I went to dealership w/ a broken shock and asked them to fix it, what w/ they do? If you qualify for the recall I am sure they will find the shock. Now if you are trying to purchase one, you may be SOL. Then again who w/ pay for the Showa? I can't wait to lose mine for the Penske. |

Sporttwin actually has the entire kit. They want 600$ for it though. Be crazy to pay that, Works is about the same price. I also remember AST makes a shock, which was more than the Works but less than the Penske. They are made in Holland and may be cheaper for you. It looked to be a quality item. I was thinking about one, but with the dollar weak, the Penske is now cheaper for me. |

Great suggestions from everyone!! I just bought this cheap as hell (about 20 dollars): http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1 &item=140218428318&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT&ih=004 I know it is shit but I will probably suffice for some months til I get a new Works one. Question: can I put my gas canister from my existing oil leaking rear shock (identical model) on this one? Because this Ebay one lacks the gas canister |

that shock came that way (no canister) its just like the one on my 2000 m2. If it doesnt leak, you will be fine with it just the way it is.... |

See "Danger" image above, and compare to your shock. Then compare that to the "very strong" image. Will it break on you? Probably not. Do I want to be within 20 miles of you when you're riding with that shock? Definitely not! |
