Has anyone done this? How does it sound? I have heard of people doing this and I've also heard that it doesn't make much power either, that it actually hurts horsepower. Anyone?

Well, here's the deal. I love the sound of the D and D muffler and it looks to me that the main reason that the muffler has the "sound" that I'm after is that it has a steel construction. I have the pro series exhaust on my bike but it doesn't have the D and D sound, which is what I'm after. Since I don't have the $300 plus dollars for this muffler, I was looking into putting together a different set up but utilizing a steel muffler in place of my aluminum can. Walker makes a "bullet" style muffler that I may get and tinker with, but I believe that this is also aluminum. I'm just looking into other options besides coughing up the loot for a D and D.

I believe the Walker "Bullet" is aluminized steel, or you can spend big $$ and get stainless. I run their 2.5" and 3" bullets on my turbo cars. Great sound with a turbo, lets me run insane amounts of boost (upwards of 24psi) without too much backpressure. I think that minimal restriction is what kills it on a Buell, though - we need some backpressure to make things work right.

What kinda turbos you running?

My I can push 32 lbs outta my stock turbo in my PowerStroke.. its outside its map though, so I have the W/G set at 27lbs..

I am seeing a 55-60 pounds of back/drive pressure. Its a Journal bearing turbo though...

Anyway...

I will second the C/B sounds like crap.. and think the Bullet Mufflers would probably sound pretty rowdy....

You can keep an eye out for someone swtiching form the D&D slip-on to a either a full system, or a Force, etc...

Ron(Crashbuell), try and stay objective my friend. Much info in the KV. I have been running a straight through fiberglass packed muffler on my M2 for quite a while with great results. They can be had at Jegs or Summit Racing and are very inexpensive, around $25-40 for aluminized steel. Others are available in SS aluminum and carbon fiber if you want to spend the money. I run a full 2 1/2" which would probably loose H.P. at least in the min-range where Buell shine but I also added a Car Chemistry insert, "www.carchemistry.com" and what I ended up with is a nice sounding, read not too loud, but throaty, muffler that actually added mid-range with very little loss at 6500 rpm's. My M2 after some jetting work pulls like a freight train from just off idle to 6800 where it hits the rev-limiter without any problems what so ever. Jetting is essential for your part of the country. My painted muffler does not look too bad either (see below) but is now hidden behind my full fairing. Try it. Cost will not be too much and if you do not like it for some reason you will not have invested much time or money but I'll bet if you go with what I did you will be pleasantly surprised. Ride and stay safe. Bob

Bob,

I just checked the Car Chemistry web site. Many cool items.

Which insert are you using? 2 disk 2.5 inch?

Thanks,

Dave

Dave using the 3 disc 2.5 inch with the little silencers in place. You can find out about the extra silencers in their tutorials, somewhere on their website. A little expensive, BUT THEY DO WORK, as advertised. I also need a carbon fiber muffler. Income tax rebate? Bob
