You'll love the Works. I put one on my S2 recently - not only does it handle great, but I know I can rebuild it if it ever does leak : )

I was pissed off I had to pay $100 for a 'goodwill' shock to replace my original that leaked all the oil out only 14 months after I got my bike brand new. I figured the extended 3 year warranty would at least help, but it didn't at all. (ironically... I never had to use the extended warranty for anything - nothing else on my bike went wrong). But the 'goodwill' reservoir shock didn't last any longer than the crappy original one... it wasn't even worth the $100.

What ever you get to replace that horrible Showa cannister shock is going to be a major improvement.

I got my Penske right here on the Badweb classifieds, btw. It's the biggest one shot improvement I've made to my bike since I got it. A quality shock really makes a diffence on these old Buells with the underslung pull shock arrangement.

Wulf, I just had my recall shock on my 2K X1 replaced last summer. No co-pay, just a straight replacement at no charge. Speak w/ Buell directly. They ran my VIN and contacted my dealer for me.

I know it's a lot of money, but do yourself a favor and get the WP or Penske.

Buell. . . .considering that we are talking about an 8 year old event here . . . has done a stellar job on these.

Dealers, in some cases, have underminded those efforts.

My dealer told me last summer my 99 S3 didn't have a recall so i asked for a new one they told me i was out of luck as they were no longer available. Warlizard what dealer do you use as it may be worth a call.

I just had my VIN ran and they said that I had the recall completed, even though I still have the old shock. I guess the collar/bracket thing is considered "having the recall done".

Numb, I go to Chicago HD. I also believe the "new" Showa's are available. Mine came as a kit and Buell even included the updated front exhaust mount. I am sure you can get something worked out if you are persistent, ask for a manager if you have to. Keep in mind that I have a great rep w/ my dealership as I have purchased 3 bikes and spent thousands on parts/labor. Though I don't know what my dealership could do for you as it has to be approved by Buell. Cb - you have the band-aid kit. I am not sure if u have any recourse as they have addressed the issue.

Do a web search for " Buell Service Bulletin B033A ". It breaks down the recall. Numb, I noticed that your bike was not affected, you may be on your own. Here is a # for recall info 1-800-448-1708. # may not still be good as it is listed on the recall bulletin from 2000.

>>>>i wonder why buell customer service declined mine?

Many bikes were not subjet to the recall which took place, as noted above, 7 or 8 years ago.

The collar and bracket was a suitable (if ugly) fix and met all the requirements of the recall.

Of note is that the reason for the recall was quite literally the classic one in a million . . . one of those things were it was determined that under a bizarre set of unusual circumstances something could go wrong.

Interesting that to this date it never has. Great example of the folks at Buells committment. There was NEVER anyting related to the shock recall that would have warranted the feds mandating it. It was entirely the result of Buell research.

If you are running an old shock . . . you are not in imminent danger.

I stand corrected Jim, my lenses were just replaced and may need a tweaking here and there. On another note Jim, American Sport Bike barbeque. I know it's a ways off but Al and Joanne haven't got a plan togeather yet, I guess theyre still up to there eyeballs in new system, she said we(thats us)may have to put something togeather this year. Wadya think Buellton or Sequoias(I loved the Firestone amber ale)? Throw me a line!

Thanks Warl, I'll give them a call. I have a have a good repor with my dealer the strange thing is when they said my leaking shock didn't fall under the recall i said how much for a new one? He says $290.00 I say order me one. He says i can't no longer available. It's blows my mind to think either they just didn't want to take the time to find out or just didn't care. I send a few thousand in HD parts with these people every year and there always helpful.

I believe (and will have to verify tomorrow when I'm back at work and have parts lookup) the $290 shock has been replaced with a still-available $800-ish shock.

Hence...my post above, second in this thread : )
