So I got back from a ride around town last night and the next morning I noticed that my rear shock was leaking oil! And was also spraying it all over my back tire! (good thing I didn't dump it!) Its just the front seal that looks to be the problem but I have found that these shocks aren't user rebuildable.

So I need some good suggestions for a replacement, Buell, Penske, WP, or I have heard of a place that you can send yours to get it "rebuilt". I'm also low on cash (college) and the rebuild sounds like the best deal when in a pinch.

HELP ME!!!

You might try getting a original shock on e-bay, they pop up, or if your on tight budget try the rebuild. Penske is great, but high $$ and Works is a bit less $$. But, being in college, I think the cheapest route is your best option, I would go for re-build or get an original (new or used) off ebay.
Good luck!

These two are the ones I found on ebay. I wouldn't mind buying used, especially for the price! but I would go ballistic if it blew out shortly after I put it on. I think I will either buy used or send mine of to Aftershocks to get rebuilt. I would LOVE to get a Penske, but that price is insane!

Yes, Penske is a big upgrade. My bro has one on his 2001 S3 and its an incredible ride, very supple and controlled.
I have a 2002 S3T with stock shock, and 13,000 miles, its still working good and has not blown out. No saying how long a used one will hold out. Good luck with the rebuild, post up the cost, time frames and results, let us know how it works.

PS: if you do get a used shock on E-bay make sure to measure the eye to eye length of the shock you need. 1999-2000 were different than 2001-02, so make sure you measure and get right length.

You will the 14 5/8 eye-eye length. The two u r looking at appear to be recall shocks, which have a length of 16"plus and won't work on your bike. I believe Works is the cheapest new shock.

That's a good point... the shock for an M2 Low is just a little longer. You gotta make sure you get the one right for you.

I bought an original shock off of e-bay a couple of years ago. It's a crap shoot to say the least. Luckily I won this time, my original pooped out at about 19K, I'm now up to a little over 23K on the clock. I only paid $68 shipped so it was a good deal even if it goes south tomorrow, I hope I didn't just jinx it.

I was noticing that too, right after I posted it. It seems Aftershocks is the way to go. I will get mine off and send it out to Cali. and let you guys know how it went.

I made the call to Aftershocks and found a very nice lady who was more than helpful, gave me an accurate quote and turnaround time(1.5 week and +/-400$)...not to shabby eh?

I sent my shock off to Aftershocks(http://www.aftershocks-suspension.com/pages/home.h tm)today about 15 min ago. it was about $14 to ship from Lubbock, TX to southern Cali. I talked to a really nice woman who said a rebuild is $300 and the turn around time once they get it will be a little over one week, When I get it back I will let ya'll know how everything went.

I would rather put that 300 towards a WP. What happens when that one goes bad, your going to have to spend another 300 to get that one fixed. Bottom line WP is like 770 or something like that.

Hopefully their turnaround time for your shock is better than my forks. They've had them 2 days shy of 6 weeks now. I called two weeks ago and she said "We'll be finishing up in two or three days."

I know this stuff takes time, and I have only called the one time because of that, but I'm starting to wonder if they have even touched them yet.

I agree w/ Cuel. Thats almost half the money for the Works. Why rebuild something that was bad to begin with? It also appears as though the turnaround could be lengthy. You might be able to acquire a decent used shock for the 300$. I w/ rather have a used Penske/Works than a new Showa, let alone a rebuilt one.

I don't think the unit on the 99 was BAD but definatley BAD on the 2K...and recalled. Works $650 shock is not adjustable dampening either way, Showa is, works is "rebuildable" so is the Showa. Then again I'll never run my baby to the limit of the Showas potential, and 19,000 miles is OK for me.

If the 2000 one was recalled, can't I have it replaced now? Even though it is a bit late ;)
