I got my M2 last spring and the owner told me that he broke the front mount several times so he just made a custom bracket. I know him well and he never did wheelies on it. I figured I'd just see what you guys think about it, and if I should replace it with the OEM part. And yes, I know I need to wash it...

Yes, i would buy the OEM Voltage regulator bracket (Don't forget to scrape the paint.)

And I would NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER have believed someone broke one without seeing it with my own eyes. I'd like to see the broken one for proof, but I'll take your word at face value. That's amazing.

Nah, thats actually pretty close to the factory bracket. take it off, make it satin black, and call it good.

If you really wanted, clean it up good..(sand paper, grinder etc)

I put over 3,000 miles on it last summer like that so I think I'll just keep it the way it is. I realize it sounds pretty suspicious but I know someone that helped make the bracket and he told me that the previous owner never tried wheelies on it so I trust him, I guess.

Wheelies dont really make a difference.. Well..

I can show you some pics of steering head bearings that were wheelied pretty hard for about 40k.....

Those, and occasionally fork seals..

As long as maintenance is done properly... no worries...

Yeah, I can't see wheelies doing that. Or anything doing that, for that matter. All it does is hold a VR...... Hmm.

One for the memory bank.

Is that base gasket leaking?

I started to notice a little oil in the area last year and looked more today (just got it out for the year) and I'm thinking that the base gasket is leaking a little. There was some oil on the bottom of the pushrod covers and some near the filter. I don't even want to think about having to change that.

It sounds like possible rocker box gasket / gaskets, when those start to go the oil ends up finding it's way everywhere. I've had it happen to two of mine.

SOMETHING, other than wheelies caused that bracket to fail. It really dont matter though. I think from a visual standpoint I'd have to clean that one up and paint it black, making sure that its contact points remained clean so you get a good ground for the regulator. Wash the motor down good and then watch carefully for your leak. Maybe you can track it down easier if you start with a clean motor.
