Someone please talk me out of it. I love my buell, but feel it is time to move onto something bigger. Thinking about 04+ gsxr 1000\04+ r1\ 04 + cbr 1000rr.

I currently have a 2000 X1 with 117 rwhp.

The faster the bike the bigger the ticket.
If you ride primarily on public roadways then realistically how fast or powerfull of a bike do you really need. I'd like to play with a GSXR 1000, but am pretty sure I'd be plenty happy with a GSXR 750 if I were to get a gixxer. I don't hit 100+mph on public roadways, partly because I find no personal need to, and partly because it's a felony to do so in some jurisdictions.

But, the reality of it is, it has to be your decision.

If you don't spend much time on the track this is simply a waste of time and money. More insurance, more attention by your local LEO and just another cookie cutter motorcycle. But hey, it's America and you can do whatever you want to. Ride safe, BR.

More insurance

Thats not always true, some companies base there rates on cc not hp, so to some companies a gsxr 1000 is cheaper that a 1200cc buell
Just an FYI

Thats the way state farm is, so if i got a similar year 1000 then my insurance would go down.

I plan to drag race the bike A LOT this summer at the local track, and to be completely honest im tired of changing rocker box cover gaskets every 1500mi.

I am going to try and talk my dad into buying my x1, that way i can still ride it whenever i want. lol.

I recently sold off my "fast" bikes and got a M2 Cyclone. I'm plenty happy cruising at 90mph and burst up to 110mph or so. Going fast is fun. But, the more you you twist the throttle the bigger the mishaps can be. I've had my share of high speed tickets and very close calls. I've come to realize that doing 140mph + is like rolling the dice, its just a matter of time before it comes up snake eyes. To each their own.

Had me one of them Kawazukiyamonda's. Got bored and needed something unique. Found it and not letting it go. Now the fun starts at 1 mph instead of 80. Might get me another one but will not sell the S1.

Sorry -- to see you leaving the fold. Even the worlds fastest UJM is still a UJM. But to each his own. I've certainly been itching for a new Kawi - Concours or an FJR -- but I could never sell my tuber to buy a bike with far less character. So I'm just saving my pennies and soon I'll add a more civilized ride to the stable -- but my Thunderbolt will still be my favorite.

I have an FJ 1200. Fast, can top 150 easy. comfortable, easy to 2 up. but no character. probably going to sell it. Keep your buell, buy a KaHoSuYa and use it once it a while. You'll always go back to the buell for the grin factor. Selling it the dad is a good idea.

Pickup a good used 600 and make it a track bike. Let the fun begin.

Chris,

In addition to my Buells, I have an 02 1200 Suzuki Bandit N (1200 with no fairing) that is a hoot!

It has GSXR1100 power and good comfortable ergos. These can be had in good condition for little money and are a good way to get the acceleration rush you need or go long distances in comfort.

The best part is that, when I ride my 02 1200 Suzuki, it helps me appreciate the Buells for what they are. The bikes complement each other and I don't have to hot-rod the Buells to the point of unreliability just for speed - the Suzuki does that for me. Also, by leaving the Buells close to stock inside with just race kits on the outside, they should last a long time too.

I have no plans to sell either my Suzuki or my Buells and I hope to ride a long time.

Good luck,

Dave

Chris,

If you plan to drag race this summer, you really should look into Suzuki Bandits.

They have a huge drag race aftermarket and hold enough records to show that they are a good platform for a racing program. And they are as close to "bulletproof" as a bike can be.

Check out Banditalley.com and Maximum Suzuki.com for more information.

Oh yeah, keep your X-1.

Good luck,

Dave

no bike on the market compares to a tube frame buell. and 117 hp sounds like that thing would be a complete blast to ride anyways. i vow never to sell my x1!!!!! gsxr's are fun but when i go to bike shows everyone walks right past every crotch rocket in the pack no matter what color or how many lights it has underneath it and stops at my bike. I love being the guy that says ya thats my bike.

to tell the truth to get the most out of a gsxr 1000 on the road and i mean use all the power you will prob have a big death wish .. as for drag racing i run a 1260 big bored suzuki efe (gs1150 in the states ) it cost me bugger all and does 10.5 second runs all day eats bandits for lunch so keep the old skool buell and join the oldskoolsuzuki.info site for all your drag needs

Agreed!

The roller crank GS1100 or GS1150 is a great drag bike, perhaps the best of all time.

It is harder to find, but if you can get a good one, that would be a great way to go!

Bandits are easy to find, go almost as fast, and are cheaper to run but the old roller crank beasts are really cool.

Oh yeah, and keep your X-1.

Regards,

Dave

Still on the fence? I had a GSXR 1100 that had all types of motor work done, hell it made 155 at the rear wheel. Only got to use it a few times. Bought my Buell and have found I dont need to do 160 to be happy. Whats more, I'm a much better rider on the Buell. Powerband is more friendly and still has enough grunt to get me out of any sitch. Crashed the gixxer twice, each at triple digit speeds. Iam lucky to be here, yessir! Buy a 600 and enjoy its power, then ride the Buell and see what your missing.........CHARACTER! You'll find it a better ride all around. Oh yeah, sold my gixxer and bought something much more useful, a KLR 650 for when the weather dont cooperate and I dont want to ruin the shine on my PM wheels.

keep the tuber and get something else for the drag strip. you'll kick yourself in the butt if you get rid of it unless your dad has it.

Check out this GS1150E/XB! I found this last year at the drag strip in Memphis.

Cool GS.

Looks like the Buell influence is everywhere! Even on GS dragbikes.

That would be a great bike for the drag strip and it would help keep from abusing the X-1.

Oh yeah, Keep the X-1.

I sold my Ninja to buy another Buell (buell #3). Yeah the Ninja was faster, but definitely not cooler. Besides, I can fix anything that breaks on it myself. Try and say that about a Japanese sportbike (designed by little people with little fingers).

Keep your X1. I regret selling my S3T. Bought an X1 this year as a sortof replacement. Get a cheap used sub 1000cc UJM. Ride it for a couple of years. After a few tickets the itch will be scratched and you can go back to riding your X1.

I understand how you feel. I have always wanted a 'Busa myself. I don't know why. I have just always wanted one. There is no logical reason.

Sounds like you have a lot of money and time in your X1. Why not keep it and get another. Find out which one you like and sell the other. Maybe you will just want both.

My Suzuki Bandit 1200 makes me smile every time I roll on the throttle.

My Buells do too but their main strengths are more aesthetic. I love the way they corner and the way they sound (race header and muffler) is sublime.

If I had to choose, I would choose both. Hey, it's still cheaper than a Ducati or a new Harley or even a new Busa. So I get the best of two worlds for the price of one.

Good rationalization, right?

I say get a good clean fast UJM and ride it like you stole it - at the strip or on long trips. Then enjoy your X-1 everywhere else.

Whatever you decide, have fun and be safe.

Dave
