I can't wait to strap on a tent and go somewhere. I was looking to see what kind of setups people have on their M2 to make it good for the long haul. How their saddles bags have done? Tires? Windshields? Suspension? | ||

When I took my M2 cross country I used a Ventura rack, Buell soft saddlebags, a dufflebag over the top, and a Buell expanding tank bag. Had a ThrottleRocker™ thing, wish I'd had the ThrottleMeister™ bar ends I later got. Stiffen up the suspension and go. Just watch your oil level on longer rides unless you've done the XB rocker cover swap. edit: I just looked at your profile pic, just throw on a set of soft saddlebags and you're good to go, maybe a throttle lock of some sort too. I've also got a set of larger saddlebags (RKA maybe?) that if you don't cinch them up right will drag a low rear inside corner on the rear tire at times. For the Buell bags I didn't use the metal bracket that came with them and had no issues, I just wrapped the rear support strap around the license plate panel and tucked it up under the loose edge of the plate. Mike, I'd post "the pic" but we might scare him! I use the Buell M2 saddle bags and tail pack. They have served me well for 1000's of miles. Looks like you have the tank bag covered. We need IAMike to chime in, he has a GREAT tail bag. I need to get one like that for myself. I for the life can't remember which one it is. I think it was a TourMaster. Mike you out there? Brad | ||

Man!! That's impressive, looks a little light on the front end though!! I've been wondering how much stuff you could tie on one of those things; I think now I know. And whatever I needed first would be in the very bottom of that bottom bag. Two hours to dig out the t paper!! | ||

To be honest, one set of saddlebags was empty, I was just dropping them off for Brad to use. We won't talk about how long it took to check the bike's oil in the evenings. One of these days I'm going to have to finish taking that interrupted trip, I'll pack lighter next time. TP was in the tank bag by the way, at least I know how to pack the important stuff. | ||

Nope, no tuba. Let's see, from bottom to top: Buell saddlebags, then a dufflebag with tent and clothing, then a tool bag between the dufflebag and Ventura rack, Camelback with water, and a coffee cup w/lid, I think the lighter colored bag was the sleeping bag or something, RKA rectangular saddlebags thrown over the top of it all (empty at this point), Ventura bag on the rear rack with misc light stuff and two pints of gas in the rearmost pocket, Tank bag had a weather radio, snacks, flashlight, rain suit, and a few other items of interest. Looks like the Camelback was strapped to the top of the load in the pic, but it migrated down to the front of the seat load and was used as a backrest. I think the toolbag made it's way inside of the dufflebag. There is a guy on the site here who recently posted a pic of his saddlebag setup which is a one piece assembly which actually looks about the same size as my saddlebag and dufflebag combo, which isn't as bad as it looks. I didn't know how long I was going to be on the road for this trip. Milwaukee to Seattle, then got interrupted. Plan was to then head up to Calgary, then down the Continental divide zig zagging the Rockies to Colorado, then meander in a wide ranging path back to Milwaukee. Camp for a day or three, then motel one night, then camp some more, so I was fairly self sufficient with food and such. I probably could have tore the bike down to just nuts and bolts with the tools I had, even had a torque wrench or two on-board. Didn't have a cell phone at the time so just went with the old ways and relied upon myself. Today I'd pack much lighter, would probably take the S2 or the bagger, if the S2 then just the saddlebags and duffle across the top, maybe a tank bag, and that's it. Tank bag comes with into restaurants and stores and such. Somewhere in the archives, hopefully it's still there, Blake had once posted his M2 packing setup. Nice, complete, compact. In one pic there was a big green sofa, in the next pic the sofa was gone so we all figured he somehow managed to stuff that into his bags as well. Would be a nice thread to resurrect if it didn't vanish with one of the past board crashes. I type too much so I'll stop here. Man I feel the need for a road trip. | ||

That remains one of my all-time favorite moto-trips. The trip up and back the year before was just as good if not better since I had more time to camp and explore the area. Instead of the sofa, take the recliner if you can.  | ||

 I have a great m2 that I have ridden many places. -bay area to bonneville -bay area to reno and tahoe many times -arizona to death valley and back -bay area to buellton califorinia -all california ride with brag I have the six speed tranny, with european gearing.....runs great. 3,000 at 80 mph. I have used the cloth buell bags from the s1. I have also mounted the s3 fairing and now the s3 hard bags. rex | ||

S3 poser? I disagree. The Cyclone is a splendid blank slate upon which we can make an already great bike.....our own, personal joy. Rex's bike is tasty, IMHO. I, too have a S3T setup on mine. ( I don't have the fancy brakes, lower fairing or color combo.... he said enviously ) If I had not found a S3 fairing, I would have put on a Rifle one. Or a Givi. There's a reason Court calls the M2 the best bike. ( and someday he'll tell us ...) | ||

Soft luggage, all different makes, colors & ages, is what I use. The Ventura rack & new bags sometime would be nice. | ||

Took the M2 From California to Sturgis South Dakota in 2002 with the wife and camping gear, nine states and 2.5 weeks on the road. Corbin seat, works shock, supertrap slip on, ventura pack rack system, soft saddle bags and a tank bag. Couldn't see the bike under the gear but that was an epic trip. The wife still loves that bike even after that trip, I guess she is crazier then me. | ||

i put an S-3 fairing on my X-1 years ago and now im putting one on my M-2... it makes the bike look longer...after reading this forum, i checked my vin number and found out that i have a low model...oh well, i guess thats ok...at least it will be different than my S-3.... | ||

I got the Buell saddle bags and through a small duffle bag on top of that. Works great for weekend trips. | ||
