Hey guys I just purchased a 1998 S1 last Sunday and have been riding almost daily, Today I took her out early and let her stretch her legs up to about 100 for just a bit, Thru the gears and then back down. Never reaching more than 6,000 rpm and all felt GREAT, Then rode for another 25 or so miles at legal speeds and back home, When I parked the bike I could see a milky color oil coming out of the breather hose, So I checked the oil tank and all looked O.K. What is this from??????? Thanks in advance, Chuck.}

Don't freak out, it's normal.
It's blow-by from the combustion chambers.
Water is a natural product of combusting a hydrocarbon.
That baby snot used to dribble on my right foot until I rerouted the breather to a tube under the bike.

Thanks Guys, When I first saw it it reminded me of a buddy's boat when he blew a head gasket and water was making it,s way into the oil. Knowing there is no water in this bike it had me scratching my head a bit, Do all Buell's do this? I Never see it on my old 75 Norton. Glad to hear it is normal, Time to pull her out for another ride today, What a fun bike to ride. And parts are a lot cheaper than an old Brit bike, Just hope the old girl don't get jealous, The girl is crying, And I used to think that was oil on the floor. LOL, Have a great day guys, Thanks again. Chuck.

It will probably become less over time if the bike is ridden several miles (30+) at a stretch. Short trips tend to make it worse. (There was a similar thread in XB world, too.)

The more humid, and as mentioned, the shorter the average ride...

When you get that thing good and hot on a high power run, it will puke the milky stuff...

No worries...

I have seen these puke head gaskets in 2 different ways...

Mine, started weeping... you would see the oil leaking a little from between the jug and the head...

And, actually seen them POP.. or, should say, heard...

On my buddys X1, that thing popped... completely lost the cyl, etc...

Let it warm up okay, and you should be good for a long while....

Side note.. it seems that when the base gaskets, go.. the head gasket seems to follow... (not confirmed, just observation)

My 2001 S3T pukes a brownish-white fluid into the catch can. I'm told it's emulsified oil--water and oil? I think it's common.

It's common.

You could add a catch-can to contain that crap, and then drain it at gas stops. That way it's not pukin on you or in your intake. Or you can just let it puke; it shouldn't hurt anything.

The Tubers seem to puke a bit more than most bikes, which is why you haven't noticed it before.

Chuck
Do a search and get familiar with oil level and checking procedure. Welcome and good choice of Buells. Pictures?

It's about as close as it could be without being a problem, Sometimes moving around on the bike my knee will touch it but it's not in the way by any means.

Here is a puke tank thread. I dump mine after every ride.
