im sure this is not a very popular subject, as everyone is looking for raw power... however, i was just reading that gas might hit four bucks a gallon this summer and i use my bike for transportation a lot... what kind of mileage are you blokes getting that have a 1250 kit? i was thinking of this mod for the m-2... the higher compression might help mileage... |

Dave My 1250 build is not conservative, I would expect the mileage to stay close to stock unless you go wild with cams, heads and valves. I get about 35-37 normal and 28-30 in the twistes. Joe |

I have to agree with Mick. Us yanks have had it easy the last few years concerning gas costs...the sad fact is we're finally just catching up to the rest of the world. The Smart cars and little micro-class cars in europe and abroad seem to make more sense now, don't they? I'd be willing to bet we'll see more of them stateside soon enough once they engineer in the crash protection. I'm also betting motorcycles will see a shift from "toy" to "transportation" on a larger scale. 2 of mine are already "transportation"; only the S1W is still a "toy" |

im sure a lot of you remember the gas crunch in the early seventies... people were torching their gas guzzlers for the insurance because they couldnt sell them... im suprised that people are still buying the big pick-ups and suv's like nothing has changed.. i spend a big chunk of my budget every month on gas for my bikes... thats my main recreation... |

Fuel use can be ambivalent so sometimes I prefer to specify the parameters for clarity... At an ambient temperature of 293 degrees kelvin and a load weight of less than 13 stone while maintaining a speed of around 500 furlongs per hour I can get 109 fathoms per Robie. That assumes, of course, that I am keeping in the powerband of 2 1/2foot pound-force per second for these calculations. There, isn't that better than using that cumbersome metric system the rest of the world is on? Love ya!

My stock motored, but aerocharged RS gets low to mid 40's mpg. dips into the high 30's if 'boosting' more than usual, or steady running at what may be construed as "somewhat in excess of posted limits". If you use X's formula, I average .0123 tsp./cubit, at 4202 cubits per 1/24 planetary rotation. YRMV. AL |

My 2001 X-1 typically achieves 50 mpg, with a high of 54 mpg. "thats around $6.40 a gallon or 6$ your money, gee you blokes get it good." I completely DISAGREE!!!!!!!!!! Europe and Australia pay the same amount for their petrol as we do in the US. I can assure you that we pay market value for our crude oil the same as China or Germany. The difference??? The taxes that are added to their fuel costs. Look to see how much goes to paying for the petrol and how much is going to pay the Queen. You are paying more in TAXES than you are in fuel. We pay our share of taxes too, just different types. Cheers, Boiler} |

My M2 and S1 both get very good gas mileage. Averages for both bikes are 50-55 mpg. |

Thanks Boiler for pointing out it's the taxes that cause the disparity in pricing. Cheers to low taxes, and down to Socialism! |

"but thanks for free medical care!" I suppose that is why we see so many of your brethren in the clinics in New York state, Michigan, and other border states....because of your free medicine? Let's be serious, it has some good but a lot of bad. Just like the system in England and other countries. If your health issues are minor it is OK, if they are more serious then your level of care is limited to one procedure (i.e. no second attempt if the first try doesn't work) or it is significantly delayed (due to the backlog of the medical staff). Until a better system is devised I would prefer to keep working on our current system. |
