I like to get my M2 on one wheel and was wondering if there are any problems with doing this on the engine. I know jap 600's tend to have problems with a lack of oil when doing wheelies. Just wondering if keeping the front wheel in the air from 10 to 85 will end up burning up my engine because of oil flow problems ( I already had to fix the detent plate, haha I guess shifting from 2nd to 3rd in a wheelie isnt a good idea after a year of doing it).

Your bike has a dry sump oiling system as opposed to the jap bikes wet sump system, the oil pickup system is different and not as hard on the circulation to the top end. That said you should still realize you are not riding a unicycle! it has two wheels for a reason! Also think about the tranny and clutch lube system which is sling type, dry that out at speed too many times and, well, you know...big bill!

Wheelies don't run the tranny dry. They can actually cause purging out the trans vent, because most of the oil ends up in the tranny box. Then your level is low, and trans gets smoked. I doubt the wheelies caused the detent plate issue, as well. I see that on many that never ride wheelie one.

As long as your oil level is OK, I doubt you'll ride high enough to uncover the oil pickup (Only your oil light knows for sure). A pure 12-o'clock will uncover it, but that's unlikely to occur for miles on end.

Buell used to recommend running 1/2 quart low on oil when a bike was wheelied alot to avoid oil overflow out the vent.

Once it's uncovered, it may lose prime and not build pressure until you bleed the system. Just watch the oil light (As good as possible during wheelies, anyway).

First, second and third are fine. I rarely can click it into fourth with my stock gearing. I haven't had any issues with my S1 ever, and I do run it a bit low on oil compared to the what the manual shows.

Well I thought that a summer of clutchless upshifts (only in wheelies) made the c-clip fell out in fall. I'll maybe give the "lower oil level" a try this year. Plus, I still have the recalled shock on my bike so I'm not really sure if I trust it for many more harder impacts.

The recalled shock is bad news. (want to sell it to me? I have an updated one I can offer)

It's not wheelies that really hurt the rear shock (Although all the load of the whole bike doesn't help). A couple of stoppies, and that shock is probably a goner. If not the shock, sometimes the front of the engine case will let go.

I'm willing to bet that the pins that locate the shift star are/were not fully seated, causing the star to be pushed towards the end of the shift shaft. Once it's flat, it doesn't hold on so well.

The Buell tranny uses undercut dogs, so forcing it into the next gear is, well, bad. Chopping throttle to unload the gears isn't bad (not saying it's good either), but the shift star really carries little load. It's just an indexer. The pins are what move all the bits around.

"That said you should still realize you are not riding a unicycle!"

I can wheelie a unicycle, too.

And stoppie.

"Buell used to recommend running 1/2 quart low on oil when a bike was wheelied alot to avoid oil overflow out the vent."

I did not know that, but I do it as matter of course to keep the spooge production down(practically non-existent now!). If you use a larger filter (like the long Dyna filter), the total oil capacity stays the same when you run it 1/2 quart low in the bag.

As in another thread I mentioned HD tech mentality...if the manual says 2.5 quarts 2.5 quarts is what you get...needless to say I no longer service my baby at HD shops and it's all due to Bad Web and you people who give advice based on experience, love you all...even you DJ.

Keep in mind, the HD tech gets his butt chewed if he doesn't put in enough oil.
