I'm heading to Advanced Auto parts after work today for a bunch of stuff. One thing I'd like to get is a new set of plugs. Anybody have recommendations? | ||

I would suggest getting your plugs from a dealer since our bikes are sensitive to heat ranges. If you go to an auto parts store, they will most likely give you a spark plug for a sportster. | ||

No problems using Champion (810, RA8HC) or Autolite (4164) plugs in my Cyclone or Sportsters. $1.50 each, replaced annually. | ||

Honestly, I'd be a bit more hesitant getting them from the dealer than I would getting a recommended part number from you guys and going to Advanced. I have a strong suspicion the parts guy at the dealer would turn around, grab the BUELL SPARK PLUGS that are hanging on the wall (for the XB's) and hand them to me. | ||

The first time I ever bought spark plugs at a Buell dealer, they sold me the 6R12 plugs. Not knowing any better (at the time), I used them... and they made the bike knock like hell. On more than one occasion, I've walked a way from dealer counter because they were out of 10R12's and would have to order them... screw that. | ||

Spark plugs and lubricants are just some of things that you can buy H-D branded but can't get specific specs on. And that irritates and even insults me. I'm not saying that any of the H-D branded stuff is not good but when they refuse to provide some basic details or info they lose my business for that reason alone. I willing to bet that every major spark plug maker has a plug that is the correct size, type, and heat range for any given H-D or Buell. The big difference in using non-H-D branded plugs is that if I live somewhere or do something that makes the recommended plug just a little too hot or cold, I can easily buy a plug that is one grade hotter or colder. Try to figure something like that out at a Harley dealer. Jack | ||

Well obviously if H-D (Buell) put out the exact info, too many folks would buy the $1.99 off-brand version instead. So they just don't publish that info, and pocket the difference, almost 'free money'. | ||

Mike, I like platinum plugs because of their resistance to fouling. They are expensive... about what you'd pay for a conventional 10R12 at a HD dealer. My 25 cents... hey, inflation you know. | ||

Al sells Iridium NGK's so I would think that it will be ok to use any exotic metal electrode that fit in the right heat range |
