Well, I bit the bullet and bought a new adjustable Works shock for the S2 (to replace the puking stocker). Pricey as hell, but rebuildable if it does fail...and still a fraction of the cost of a Penske.

It is *waaay* too clean to be on my bike, though. LOL.

Anyway, I have it set per their manual for 1" of sag with just me on it, no gear. I wasn't gonna suit up just to measure spring sag; they say anywhere from 1 to 1.5" is fine. I'm also starting 2 clicks from soft on the compression, and 4 from soft on rebound (I go about 200lbs in gear).

Just curious if anyone else is running this shock, and if there are any glaring omissions in the setup booklet that I should work around...or if I'm good enough to go ride and see how it goes.

After the 1" of ice is off the roads, that is.

Rat,

best thing to tell ya...

You have static height set,

Basic comp/rebound

When you can, take if for a ride... and adjust from there...

Hi, I run this shock on my X-1. Its great, and I just estimate the amount of sag. On thing to look for is the spring rubbing one of the long struts...looks like the spring can shift a bit out of place. Its not a big problem, but something to keep an eye out for.

If you don't mind. Where did you get the shock and how much did you have to give? I've been debating a penske too. Do you like it so far?

American Sport Bike sells both I believe.

Say, I've had the Works shock for exactly a year now, but I bought it used, without the book. Could you tell me what the books says about setting the shock up for me (145 lb. in gear)

The book doesn't give any weight-specific settings. It says lean the bike on the sidestand to unload the rear suspension and measure between 2 points (I put tape on the swingarm and tail). Then set the sag between 1 and 1.5 inches with you on it by measuring the same 2 points with the rider weight on the bike. You set the sag with spring preload only, no ride height adjustment. They leave comp/reb entirely to the rider; I started soft and it actually seems pretty good. Comfy, no wallow in turns..but again I'm not pushing real hard as cold as the weather (and my tires, and the roads) is/are, and given the amount of winter crap on the roads. I'm sure I'll firm it up some come summer "handling" weather ;)

I bought it new thru work, they're still available thru Drag Specialties and as mentioned above I believe Al also has them at American Sport Bike. So far, I'm happy. I run a Penske on my S1W and like it too...but I only got that because I got a smokin' deal on it (fresh rebuilt/used/dyno charts/manuals). The Works priced out about $450 less (retail price-wise). List on the 3 way is around $850; the 2way comes in right around $700 I think (retail prices). Penskes have a comma in their prices.
