for a couple of months, i have advertized for a clean s-2 or 3, with no success... part of the problem is that all the tubers seem to be north of the mason dixon and getting the bike to north florida is a hassle...
last year, i needed to get rid of a pristine beemer cruiser and got zero bids on ebay, even at arightous price.. a bloke from north atlanta said he would buy it, if i would bring it to him no later than saturday.. a winter storm had moved in and was supposed to be mostly gone by that day... well, you wouldnt have known it, as it was in the 30s in atlanta...
i rode the bike and froze my a$$ off.. it was so cold my lips were bleading and im 61 years old!! just some long johns and a leather jacket.. i know, what the hell was i thinking... bottom line, i made it and sold the bike...
i keep reading about members so desparate to sell their tubers that they are parting them out... as you have probably noticed, the used bike market is lame...i just gave away 3 harleys at a pathetic price..
well, ive got the cash and nobody wants to bring me a pristine bike at a reasonable price.. so i guess its easier to part them out..
bike week is coming up and they could ride the bike to daytona and i would take them to the airport with the cash... no takers?.. im not going to pay 500 bucks just to get a bike shipped...i dont have a pickup or a trailer and i live alone, so going to pick up a bike isnt practical.. any adventurers?

There's the rub, a pristine bike at a reasonable price. Many of us are in the quandary of wanting more than the current market price for our bikes, and not willing to part with them for the current going prices. I had my M2 on here a few times now, probably a few lynching parties have been formed to come after me someday since I haven't broke out the tool box and broken up the bike yet, but the complete bike offers haven't been there and the parts prices haven't added up, so I still have it intact. Need the cash, but will find another way to gather the scratch if I can't get my price on the bike(s).

Make me an offer I can't refuse and I'll put the bike on your doorstep if you want me to. Ride the Grayhound bus up to Atlanta or catch a ride with someone going to the MB-V gathering in Suches GA and I'll have the bike parked at your tent flap for you.

But offer me $3,500 and I'll point you to Craigslist. Just part of the quandary of being a Bueller I guess.

But there are people who will sell you their bike for $3,000. And that $500 shipping fee will put a bike on your doorstep that you'd pay $3,500 for otherwise. Just shop around some, the deals are out there. Maybe not in my garage, but they are out there.

Hang in there, the right deal will come along.

ive got no problem paying 4k for a clean bike... i just bought a 01 m-2 for 3800 bucks, that had 1500 miles on it and was virtually a new bike with extras.. thats more than book value...the bike was located not far down the road and i snatched it..
the reality is, that i just sold some clean harleys and literally had to pay money to sell them, per upside down... im tired of payments and im buying what i can pay cash for..maybe the market is different upnorth, but in florida its soft.. i had to squirm to get 12k bucks for an 07 roadking, which is one of the most popular models.. not one bid on ebay... im not here to argue the value of ones bike... many have a lot of sentiment attached... my point is, i have the cash and bringing me the bike is probably less work that taking a hacksaw to one... i just want to buy a buell touring bike...

ive located a pristine s-2 in dallas for 3700 bucks with 3k miles, like new... once again, i dont even have a ride to the airport if i wanted to fly out and ride it home... not to mention, riding a strange bike 1000 miles and hoping it doesnt break down in dildonia someplace...
even if i wanted it shipped, i would be sending a stranger a check without even knowing if the bike actually existed...

I fully understand your concerns about considering a bike sight unseen.

I wouldn't call the market up here soft, more like "limp", as in dead. The -7°F temps over the weekend and the forecast additional 3"-6" snow today doesn't help matters much.

Sounds like you got a nice deal on your M2.

Here's a pic of the alley behind the garage currently with a bicycle I took the components off of to use on another bike:

And here's a little snowman in a little snowcave, got tired of shoveling the snow and decided to dig a hole instead:

Maybe I'll wheel a motorcycle out later this week and take a sympathy pic of it. Sometimes it's amazing my bikes get any mileage on them at all.

The whole discussion on the price of used Buells just shows its a matter of personal choice. How bad do you want to sell it and what does it really mean to you. How much is my S3T worth? I dont know, but right now its priceless to me. Buell riders are no different than other bikers that spend lots of $$ on modifications that you cannot recover. Some Buell riders grouse about the crop of "cheap" Buell riders that want a great bike at low cost. I want to see as many people riding Buells as possible, even $3,500 X-1s.
Now that HD has dropped its stock after glutting the market, maybe chopper builders will start to feed off HDs. Will leave more Buells for enthusiasts to enjoy, even if it means lower prices.
Rock on Buell.

I hate that anyone would cut up a Buell for a "chopper" project, which usually ends up looking down right sad, with the sportier parts on a supposed chopper or rat bike. I know that the first time I rode a buell (06xb12r) I was smitten by it. I got rid of my 1200 sportster (03) and then waited patiently until I could find the Buell of my dreams. I found my calling in a '98 S1 and Ive loved it ever since. Please keep the Buells away from the chopper folks!

So far this season that mound of snow has ranged from 3'high to over 7' high and only accounts for the snow blown from a 10'x10' patch of driveway so we can get the car in and out. It will probably be back to 6' high by this weekend.

This is what it looked like in the summertime, I miss the summertime:

There, I deleted the whole thing.
Sarcasm and humor are hard to type.

Besides (warning: humor and sarcasm follows) how can I calm down, it's snowing again and I have to run a snowblower instead of my unsellable Buell. Oh the humanity of it all.

'scuse me now while I go crawl into the little snow cave and evict the little snowman.

just because you have a great bike for sale doesn't mean that someone conveniently close to you has the money right now, waiting for your bike to show up.

if you can exercise some patience until that right buyer contacts you, you'll get more for it.

what you are asking may be fair, but remember no one NEEDS your bike. you have to wait for the person who WANTS your bike enough to check it out. a buell is no investment. it is a perq you award yourself..you gotta wait until someone wants to reward himself, or buy a toy for the fun of it.

hang loose man, lots of us are having trouble even getting down the driveway. a few nice spring days will greatly aid your cause

I also took mine down, sorry for any misconceived notions. Lets all just ride and have a good time. Sorry to hear about the snow, I am in Jacksonville, NC and it is very nice outside. Ive put about a thousand miles on my bike the last two weeks! Be nice to the little snowman! But I guess he who giveth can always taketh away!

I think the bears have a good idea with their hibernating through this crapola, maybe I'll join them:

I've had both the M2 and S2 for sale off and on over the last few years, but neither are set up with luggage. Sort of ran out of room to work on them this winter.

You might want to take a look at what Rex did to his M2 for some ideas, you might not really need a second "touring" bike if you set your M2 up with S3 luggage and fairing. The S3 fairing is an easy mount to the M2 since the M2 already has the fairing spider mounting tubes welded to the steering headtube. And I'm sure Rex or some others could walk you through what it takes to mount the S3 saddlebag mounts to an M2 frame.

Here's a good link to a discussion of M2/X1/S3 touring setup options
http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/476 23/302787.html#POST964063

Hmmm, seems you are already looking at this option:
http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/476 23/335516.html

Couldn't find a pic of an M2 with S3 bags on it even though I'm sure someone posted one fairly recently.

Oh well, back to the snow shovel, the little snowman kicked me out of his cave.

Werewulf, you will have to be patient. At some point a bike will appear in a location that is a reasonable distance from you. You can thank the Magic of the Internet for making it possible to get detailed photos of the bike before making a commitment to get it. Don't let shipping costs get between you and a Buell. S2s and S3s that have not been abused, wrecked or painted an ugly color are worth the shipping costs.
Be Buell My Friend.

Once again I'd buy the X1 that's new with the warranty at the dealer. Lwt them sort out the bugs -- under warratny. If you wanted my S3 -- youd have to pry it from cold dead hands -- oh sorry that's my bumper sticker --

Werewulf, my S3's still for sale:

http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/21/ 266304.html?1174503899

I realize it's not exactly what you're looking for (minor wreck damage repaired and salvage title) and SC is probably a little far north for you. OTOH it looks decent, it's mechanically sound and I wouldn't hesitate to ride it 500 miles away today.

I've had this bike listed for a year now. I got exactly 2 e-mail inquiries the first week it was listed. I responded to both promptly and never heard another word from either of them (inquiries were "I'm interested- is the bike still available" and my response was "yes, call or e-mail for details"). If you have any interest, the price at this point is highly negotiable and maybe we could work something out on delivery.

It's easy to see why so many of these end up getting parted out. I barely have enough time to ride my Uly and given the choice I almost always pick it. I hate to see the S3 gathering dust and if a buyer doesn't come along this spring I suspect you'll see a bunch of S3 parts on ebay. I can't afford to keep paying tax, tags, and insurance on something I rarely ride.

You know (whether you're interested in my bike or not), you could always rent a U-haul truck for a reasonable amount and drive somewhere to pick up a bike.

Werewulf, there is only one problem with owning a Buell - it makes you want more of them! I wish to heck I could have a fleet of them (S2,S1,X1,S3). Your a lucky guy! Post some photos, when you get them?
You are also to be commended for helping to keep Buells from Internet Butchery, AKA parting them out to chopper builders.
Cheers

From one of the DCBRAG members. Don't think that they're available anymore.

I guess you'll have to buy my bike if you want a set of your own. ; ) We're only about 42 miles apart, I'll deliver it if you meet my price, snow or no snow. : )
