Hey everyone! I just wrapped my headers tonight, and I'm not sure I got the metal straps on there tight enough? I am thinking about going to work and using the Band-IT gun, and maybe some .032 safety wire. Has anyone here used safety wire or Band-ITs before? Also, where I have it wrapped around the header pipes doubled over, is the tension of the wrap over it enough to keep it? Or should I throw a few loops of safety wire on it? Im waiting for it to all dry right now, then its paint and back on the bike.

I used hose clamps.

After you paint it you'll never see 'em.

+1 on the hose clamps, I put one at the start and finish of each pipe. The wrap itself holds tight in the middle if you overlapped enough (I think I have about 1/4" overlap).

I just finished it, and it looks pretty good. I'm still trying to post pics, working on it! Those darn exhaust gaskets are a Beeeooottch! Got it all seated good and no leaks so far. I will say my bike did look like it was gonna catch fire though! Thanks for the tips everyone

I used the 2 inch and overlapped it about an inch. I used the band it gun at work (I work on helicopter in the marines) and it is way tighter than any hose clamps or those tie ties.

I just used stainless steel CV boot straps, thin strong and hardly noticeable(after spraying them and the pipes black)

Why does this stuff smoke so badly? How long will it smoke like that? I look like one of those sh*tty cars that run on straight engine oil!!!

Miles - The Band-It is the way to go. Sorry about the late reply but I think you made the right choice with that band. It looks much cleaner than other clamps too!!

Nice

The best part about the band-it is that they are free at work. And they have the proper tool for it! I put two down at the end where it goes into the collector, and one up at each pipe inlet. I put a double twisted strand of .032 safety wire around the part where I overlapped the wrap on the double pipe area. It all hid very nicely with the tabs to the inside, and when I painted the pipes, it all vanished!

You'll smoke until the paint burns off, and the fiberglass wrap finishes sizing itself. If you wrapped them wet, they're going to steam for a while too. And any time you ride in the rain on wash the bike from here on out.

I think I had close to 50 miles on my S1W before the smoke really quit. But even now, 500 miles in, I can still smell the wrap after a good hard run. I look at it as just another layer to the "tuber personality" : )
