I know it does not say X1 but the mounting points look like what I have on the X1. Is this interchangeable? Is it a tire width issue?

Looks very similar.
Shouldn't be a tire width issue as I think they all came with 180's on the rear.
Mine's under the house somewhere or I'd take a pic of it.

What is the purpose of this anyway? I get the belt guard- top guard would protect passenger, lower guard protects the belt from road debris - at least that is how it is explained for the sportster.

Will the fender do anything? It looks like it is too short to protect from water or dirt from rooster tail. That will hit the underside of the tail section. I guess it would keep debris off the tire before it rolls around to the contact patch.

Before I buy one, yours or this one on ebay, it would be good to know the function beyond the chain guard. I understand that without them has cleaner looking lines. Are my assumptions about function correct?

What condition is your in? Price?

It will also minimize the crap that gets built up on the front of the swing arm, battery box, and, back and top of the trans...

I think I threw mine out...

I just need to be more diligent in cleaning my bike....

Don't waste your money. The bike does look better without it and if you do get caught out in the rain it's going to throw it up on you anyway.
Unless you just really want one, but you can always add it later. Just my $.02.

Don'tcha mean belt guard?

They cut down on messiness, looking better with/without it is personal thing.

They're too short to affect keeping the passenger clean, unless you get one from an S1.

Gloss Black? You mean it is painted?

The early fenders (steel swingarm) were carbon fiber. The late fenders were texture-black coated fiberglass. So were the S2 fenders. Most aftermarket fenders (for either swingarm, steel or aluminum) are carbon fiber.

Personally, I think the bikes look like crap without them. Too much open space between the tire and tail section, in addition to all that crap getting thrown up on the backside of your powertrain (*and* all the electricals!). But, matter of opinion.

The textured black is what I have seen. But, not a gloss black. So, is that painted or CF?

Good point on the swingarm change. BTW, does anyone here have a PRE-recall swingarm they want to sell?

I would think that it also offers a degree of protection to the oil tank.

Yup, have heard of debris being tossed at the oil res and piercing/rupturing the thing. Years ago one of the dealership Buell guys had that happen if I remember right.

I'd sure like to figure how to attach an old style fender to a new swing arm.

"Personally, I think the bikes look like crap without them."

I don't think the bikes look like crap without them, but I do like the look of the little chain guard/fender. I'd never take mine off... I think it looks cool!
