Looking at doing this as there was oil all over the place as I began to tear this X1 down. Looking at doing the XB Rocker Box conversion.

Is it worth it? Is the one on American Sport Bike a good price or can I do just as good at the dealer where I get a discount? Got an XB Rocker Box part number? And what year XB are these?

Thanks.

I think the breather method on XBs is superior, but I don't know how well it works without the reed in the crankcase.

Did my 01 X-1 some time ago, and am very pleased. Simple to do, just a little trimming/notching may be needed to provide clearance for the front motor mount. Even re-used the old gaskets.

IIRC, the American Sport Bike kit is polished, which adds a bit to the price. But you do get great customer service there!

I do advise a catch can. I didn't add one, and will in the near future. And no real change in oil consumption. That includes 500mi days at 60+mph on the way to Laguna. The biggest difference is no oil stains on my right knee.

Feel free to PM if you have questions. Dave

^^^^^^^ what he said is what i was about to say, the xb' boxes have a goofy coating on them that i did not remove at first but now i am going to have them powdercoated a different color. so its a horse a piece, get em cheaper and do something about the finish yourself or deal with American Sport Bike and buy em in a different finish al is great to deal with, he would more than likely be able to have them coated for a fee. blake

I polished 3 sets and painted one.
I used wrinkle black paint on the set I used on the S1 project last year.
Looks perfect.

Changed to XB breathers and a catch can 20k ago.Blow by is history since then.
Simply sprayed exhaust paint on them.

What do you do with the crank vents in the front on the head? Just use a bolt?

X1devil, how do you like the front motor mount support bar (were there any issues installing it)? I have one, but have not yet installed it.

1/2-8 bolt will plug that hole...

No not really, you just have to shim the bar at the lateral engine mount, you should avoid any flexural stress.
It has been a little pain to get the front engine mount torqued to the necessary number.Between the frame and the fork wasn´t much space to use my long armed torque wrench.Once you try it,you will know what I mean : )

Xldevil, the paint you used on the head covers, is that textured?

Bluzm2, I was wondering what the Hex bolt was for. Thanks.

Xldevil and Tombo, is the front motor mount support an added support mechanism? Why use it? Model specific?

In a pinch, you can run a short length of 3/8" vent hose from breather bolt to breather bolt if you can't find the right size fasteners. Looks crazy, but it works.

"Simple to do, just a little trimming/notching may be needed to provide clearance for the front motor mount."

The NRHS front mount for tubers clears XB rocker covers - no need to grind if you already have one.

Bobo, the paint is flat black exhaust color by Duplicolor.
The motor support can and should be used on any tuber to prevent the well known breaking of the front engine mount and/or the front head´s thread/bolt.
