Are there any updates on the s2 kickstand or should I just let it lean. Seems to be a little slop in the pivot point. I know this is common on S2's but is there anything I should do to improve it. | ||

There is one update that I know of that inserts a steel pin in the sidestand housing to help prevent the sidestand from collapsing when the bike is resting on it. Apart from that some S2 owners have heated and pounded and bent their sidestands to put the bike in a more upright posture while parked. There is a magical bend that stands the bike up straighter and still allows the sidestand to clear the swingarm while riding, it is buried in the archives of the knowledge vault someplace. Rumor has it as well that there is/was an earlier Buell company sidestand that might work on the S2, shorter in length than the stock sidestand but more upright in posture. I forget if this older sidestand has ever had it's part number posted. In the mean time I just park mine with a chunk of 2x4 under the sidestand when it's in the garage. | ||

I think it was, mine has it. I believe it was an early running change. i think al at american sport bikes sold billet side plates for the s2.that corrected the problem while using your stock kick stand. they were rather expensive like 600? would have loved to get a set though!!!! several bad webers bent theres with much success.. i bought a spare side plate and made my own to get the results i wanted. most just park in gear and use a 2x4, mine i could put a 4x4 under and it would sit half way normal ,, then i changed it. now the bike feels much lighter coming off the stand and it holds more gas at fill ups.    | ||

Aaomy has done some nice work that he's been gracious enough to post about in the past. You might notice that his S2 in that pic has a newer style aluminum swingarm on it, not as simple to do as one might think. (Shoot, now it's got me thinking, dang it.) | ||

I've got a set of American Sport Bike's sideplates on my bike and love them. They were pricey...but cheaper than bodywork if the bike fell over and crunched a saddlebag, leg fairing, tank.... His plates use later sidestands, I have one from an M2 on it now, but had my S1Ws in there while I was waiting for the M2 stand to arrive since the S1W was just sitting on Pit Bulls waiting for a shock at the time. I got the plates fairly recently too, like within the last year or so. The only adjustment I had to make was to drill and tap a screw into the top side of the stand pocket so I could adjust the "up" position of the stand. At first it was over-retracting and hitting the axle nut. Stand down, though, and it behaves just like any other Buell  | ||

I hate the stock sidestand. I have ordered ones from Al. Cannot wait to get them on the bike, and have it lean at teh proper angle. REX | ||

Rex - you're gonna love 'em! This was the first thing I did to my S2 when I got it. Not sexy, not making it faster...but still the best mod I've done. I know it'll be rubberdown whenever I come back to it My trick when it came time to remove the bolts that hold the plates on? First, start soaking them now with penetrating oil. Then, when the time comes to swap, give them a sharp blow to tighten them first. That should break them loose without rounding them the way you need them to stay sharp. Then start loosening | ||

Yes Aaron but can not see detail of inside left S2 side plate of kick-stand.+ how stand bar works,(folds and holds)? Those $600 I would not spend my money that way!  | ||

the bike is all tucked away so it might be a while before i can get some picks. but you can see some from these picks..  there are two countersunk bolts holding the kick stand in place,, a tab goes up behind the side plate that the bolts thread into..  it uses a standard kick stand return spring,, i was going to use a ball and detent set up but got worried about it eventually coming loose jumping tracks or something like that.. so i went with the spring that will always pull it back, till the spring snaps..  hope this helps you some,, sorry i didnt have my camera at work the day i made this.. other wise i could have given you some better picks,, aaron |
