My eyes are about to pop out of my head after perusing over 50 posts looking for answers so I'll ask it here.
For those who have wrapped your pipes with header wrap which width did you use? It seems to me that the 1" is going to give a tighter wrap but I could be wrong. My mind is made up, it is getting wrapped and sprayed down with the silicone spray but I'd like to know which width to buy.
I thought someone had posted some pics but I'm having major brain farts right now and can't find them.

i haven't wrapped my buell, but have a couple of mine and helped friends with theirs. one inch works the best. you can get good overlap and still looks good.

I went with 2" and overlapped it an inch. It's as tight as a drum, and I put it on wet. If you go with 1" then the overlap at half an inch will mean more ribs closer together along the length of the pipe. I thought for that reason less ribs and a broader wrap would look better. I've seen several on BadWeB that look neater than mine, be they 1" or 2" wrap, and I still can't make up my mind which looks better. Maybe you'll end up like me, and like it no matter what thickness you wrap it. In others, it all looks good if you make a neat job of it.

Good luck.

IMHO 1" wrap worked best for me !!!

Use safety wire to hold the ends, "PLUS" do a safety wire wrap over the over laps ...

Rocket, you did good !!!

Rocket has used, what appear to be, the stainless steel ty-wraps. I get them from Brady for use installing Thermistor wire on transformer deluge systems.

The ty-wraps I used were identical to those that came in the packet with the wrap. Except there wasn't enough of them. From usual outlets that sell pre packed exhaust wrap, it was like £12 for a bubble packet of four 4" lengths. A total rip off. I found an outlet, Larkspeed (Leeds, England) that sold the stainless ty-wraps individually for 40p each 4" and 80p each 8". Court's right. Shop around if you want to save money.

2", applied wet. Used a wormdrive hose clamp at all three ends, plus one at the joint from headpipes to collector on the first pipe. I wrapped the front pipe first, stopped and clamped at the collector, then wrapped the rear pipe, overlapping the end of the front pipe clamp, and to the muffler joint.

Can't tell from the pic, is Mummy wrapped in 1" or 2"?

That's a good looking job Ratbuell, I think I will also use the worm clamps on mine. Talked to a local hot rodder who recommended that also.
Would it also be a good idea to leave plenty of room to work with the exhaust nuts? I also have the O2 bung to contend with.

2 inch is a bit easier as you wont use as much. (WIDER WRAPS =LESS TURNS) I tried 1" and ruined it by not having enough. It was a fifty foot roll and believe it or not it ran out.

A 50' roll of 2" was enough for me to do one and a half headers; I have about 1/3 roll left if I decide to put a race header on the S2. I hate to cover those gorgeous welds on the factory header!

I also left about 1" at each head port, and about 2" at the end of the collector. I also schmeared some ultra black RTV on the loose ends to keep them from fraying and flapping.

When I had mine, I used 2"...I wrapped it dry, pulled like hell and got it nice and tight. I used hose clamps to hold the ends...I had one spot rub through and start to fray so I stuck another hose clamp on it, sprayed it black and no more problems.

Be prepared to have hand cramps...

Ditto. Left an inch or two unwrapped at the head end. I too had a good few feet left over using the 2" 50' roll from DEi.

There is a chart on the rear of the packaging from DEi, which gives a fairy accurate formula to work out how much wrap you need.

Are you guys wrapping to cut down on the heat coming off or is their a noticable power difference? I really like the look of the SS header but I would wrap it if it makes power!

I'm using it cut down on heat. My header is already coated but I went to Bristol to the AHDRA last year and my leg was cooked. I've been on long trips before, and it was 100 degrees in the shade but I thought gees it can do better than this.
Plus I like the look, more streetfighter I think.

I'm a performance junkie and was told it's good for a slight gain in HP. If it isn't, it looks better than the original pipes. More so when they're scuffed from a minor 'get off' or four or was it five

Heat for me. Cosmetics a close second. I figure I won't feel "one" hp, so I wasn't too concerned about performance gains.

Heat is the main issue. The real reason is to allow the hot gas to exit at an increased rate by keeping internal temp higher in the header. It allows an action similar to a flue.

"similar to a flue" or in other words a "smokestack" and it's an X1.

Well I finally got around to ordering it today, only a week late.
Believe it or not I got it at Amazon.com. It's the only place that I have found a 100' roll, that's right two zeros. Didn't want to end up like Wile and run out with just inches to go.
Went with the 1" wrap and I'll take pics to post. It was $36 plus shipping, cost per foot it was the cheapest I found and it's the same brand as elsewhere. We'll see.

SMOKESTACK LIGHTNING "thats different" I can see how wrapping the old style header would improve rider comfort greatly! Thanks for the answers!
