Heres a few shots of how I modified my deep lids to keep em closed...
I used 2 latches from a 2002 HD tour pack.
Had to space them etc, but these can be run without even doin the locks up..I believe the HD FXRT model used kinda the same idear.
I also used some battery vent hose to tighten the catches on both my deep bag set and my narrow set...
Instead of changing lids, Im fortunate enough to have complete narrow and deep bags with backings...
Also take note of the HD clutch cable guides...They make great tye down points...
Hope these photos Help ya"all and maybe you can decifer something for your "Open Bag Blues!".......Onahog

Onahog, thanks for the idea. I think I might try that. I have an extra set of inners and large outers that need a lot of work so that may be the way to go. I also like those hooks on the inners they look like a great way to strap stuff down. Great pics as well.... Frank

Frank...No problem..Glad ta help out here.
I also Made a hoop to go from One bag bottom to the other...Kinda like the old HD Flhs used...I use 2 wing nuts underneath to do it up...It works well at tyin the 2 saddlebags 2gether, which stabilizes them alot and keeps your brackets from breaking...As a note, On the S3T models, they kinda did the same thing with the bar across the back bottom with the rubber bumpers on it....Stabilzer bar...Capish?

Great idea as well. I always wondered about that bar on the S3 bags that I see in the pictures. Since I am at a stand still on my S1W restoration, tonight I am taking inventory of the spare bags I have. Let it snow. I am working indoors tonight where it is warm and the beer is cold....

The tie down hooks are from older Harley FLH clutch cable supports...Available at any aftermarket or HD dealer...Work great...Hb

Thanks Onahog!

I'm trying to decide if was going to make some aluminum spacers (that plastic crappy thing that came with it doesn't cut it in my book), or build up the area with fiberglass.

I'll have to check out those cable supports, they look pretty clean...
