Are there any other cool air cleaners out there other than a force winder or carbon can? also if anyone can tell me which air cleaners from harley bikes will fit an x1 that would be great! just looking for something different! | ||

Look at HBBI (Harley Big Bore Intakes) I have the carbon fiber looking one. It fits VERY good and performs NICELY. Matt. | ||

Any cleaner that will fit the Sporty will fit your bike. The only obstacle is the hole for the temp sensor, which some guys make themselves. For me the Forcewinder is perfect-offers the knee clearance and is among best flowing. Whatever you do don't get the hyperchager, it's garbage. | ||

Don't use the Harley hamcan style filters for a Sportster on a Buell - the base isn't offset for knee clearance. It'll physically fit the bike, but your knee won't be able to tuck behind it. | ||

The hypercharger is one of the worst flowing cleaners on the market. Apparently the butterflies aren't very functional, from what I have heard. They are overpriced. IMO they look stupid. It will most likely hit your knee. There is a Euro site that has some nice products, it is in the sponsor section. They are similar to the force but they come in actual CF. Had I seen one earlier I would have bought it. | ||

Forget "cool looking"IMO. You can build your own Forcewinder breather setup for the price of a K&N RD-0720 filter, about thirty six bucks from your local auto parts store and two hours time. Measure and cut 2.75 inches off the stock snorkel just behind the IAT sensor hole. Drill new IAT hole .687Dia. next to the breather hose barb and install the grommet and sensor then install filter on the end. You will need to plug the two anti-resonance holes and remove the rubber the snorkel fit into just behind the stock filter also. On the bottom of the stock inner airbox there is just enough room to drill ten .875 Dia. holes that can't be seen with the stock outer cover in place that will really let the motor breathe but still have the stock appearing look that is rain resistant also. The RD-0720 filter measures 3.75 Dia.x 6.00 long with a 2.4375 opening and fits inside like it was made for it and needs no additional support. I like what Buellistic said about the OEM "sliders". I don't care for mods that change the good looks of a scooter plus my riding buddies always wonder why my stocker runs better than theirs. | ||

I'm a semi retired welder,fabricator,machinist by trade but not smart enough to post pictures .... go figure. Also a computer nubie,never sat behind a keyboard until six months ago so I type with two fingers. I do have a digital camera just haven't learned how to use photobucket or the other methods to send pic's. | ||

You can upload pics straight from your hard drive, you just have to make sure the size isn't too big. There is some very easy to use software you can download for free to resize your photographs in the PICs forum. It's called Irfanview - I got everyone in my office using it. When you are ready to post pics, just ask and people will fall over themselves to help. | ||

Limited....K&N also makes an air cleaner almost identical to the mailaire. Theres a few dollars diff between the two. American Sport Bike offers said K&N air cleaner. Just in case the ebay one gets bought out from under you, check American Sport Bike or here: http://www.steelthundercc.com/buell_parts.html I havent ordered anything from them (steel thunder) but I CAN tell you that if customer service is important to you, Al at American Sport Bike is "DA MAN"! I use the old-style oval aircleaner, with the extra wide K+N filter. I had to fab my own backing plate, S+S doesn't offer one. It's tilted out of the way. | ||

You sound just like my father. He moved his second wife's mother in when everyone thought she only had a few months left. That was 10 years ago. He has subsequently retired and gets to spend all day, every day, with her. She continues living just out of pure spite for him. I love that old lady. She gives me a highball glass full of scotch everytime I visit. | ||

Ramsey, I had to laugh at your comment about the good looks of the stock airbox. You have to be joking? It resembles a tumor. It is so much larger than the left side scoop it makes bike look unbalanced. It hides the motor. It's just bad all around. IMO these bikes look so much better w/out the cheap plastic ( airbox,guards etc.) The more you take off the more you can see the beauty of the bikes design. | ||

Well the one just installed on the ol' M2 combines the shape of my old Forcewinder, with the material of it's predecessor the Carbon Ham-can. Voila, a "carbon-copy" of the Forcewinder, the RRC Airblow, from Trojan. It is so "cool-looking" ! | ||

Besides I never said the OEM air box was good looking, I said why screw up the looks of a good looking scooter. Ramsey - we all have profiles, mine indicates I own a 2000 X1. I bought it because I could see the potential lying just beneath some cheap plastic. I think the body work is fine, once you get the crap off to actually see it. The bodywork consists of the painted parts, which look great. The cheap black plastic has to go. The only reason the airbox is on there is for the EPA. When you imply that removing the airbox would ruin the good looks, you are essentially saying the airbox looks good. I feel just the opposite, why hide a gorgeous bike under ugly, useless guards/covers? Hey, some guys think fat women are attractive. To each his own. | ||
