Well I received my V&H aluminum slip-on muffler and installed it the other night(who ever invented the stubby wrench musta hadda Buell Ya?). Anyhow, I LOVE how it has cleaned up the look of the lower part of the bike. The thing is, its freakin LOUD. I didnt expect that. The ad said "slightly louder with a throatier sound". Well we are talkin Deep Throat here. Its a great sound but Im worried about offending the local cops. Question for those who have the same muffler. Is yours really that loud and have you had problems with ringing ears after a long ride?? | ||

Are we talking about the SS2R? If so, I've had it about six or seven years and haven't had a cop so much as take a second look nor have I had any ringing but I do wear a full face helmet. I did notice the other day that my rear bracket is broken. I plan on a winter tear down so it will get replaced then. Hope this helps. | ||

Thanks Ky. Mebey it's just shock difference from the quiet stock one. Its getting cold up here and riding days have been sporadic so I'll probably get local public opinion in the spring. Sure does look nice ... BTW, you have a goregeous bike. Detail is the key, it seems , with these Buells. I'm workin on mine....bit at a time... | ||

If it is the V&H SSR2, then definitely don't worry about the sound. The stock exhaust is ridiculously quiet, and the V&H is pleasantly louder. I temporarily have 2 S1's right now (one with a V&H and one with a Force), and the V&H is virtually silent compared to the Force. I HAVE to wear earplugs for the Force on long rides or my ears are ringing afterwards (i.e. hearing damage). The V&H sounds great without being obnoxiously loud. Just give yourself a little time to acclimate to it and you'll love it. | ||

That's the standard V&H SSR2 (as it says in the description) that everyone has. It's not loud at all compared to many exhaust systems. Enjoy your newfound hooligan status and your ride! | ||

Igneroid, is your muffler brand new, or did you buy it used? Also there were reports that when you re-pack it, the packing from American Sport Bike is slightly quieter than factory. | ||

Love my OEM Product Improved Muffler !!! Not much louder than the OEM Muffler and cost $$$.$$ less ... Gives the same LOW END Performance and it never has to be repacked !!! If "i" ever get stopped by the POLICE for a noisy muffler, all "i" have to do is go to the nearest grocery store and get one potato to plug the extra outlet and the muffler is stock again !!! | ||

I think exhaust noise is a lot more noticeable to the rider on a Buell because of where the outlet is. Also there were reports that when you re-pack it, the packing from American Sport Bike is slightly quieter than factory. I found that to be the case. Granted, the original fiberglass packing had some miles on it, but it was all still there when I repacked the V&H with an American Sport Bike repack kit. It did seem noticeably quieter, but the kit did come with a lot more packing than the V&H had stock. It was a good thing the packing wasn't fiberglass and relatively benign to work with, because I was up to my elbows in the stuff trying to force it all in the can. I never got pulled over for noise even when the V&H was at it's loudest. I have had a few scowls from the populace, though. The repack has made it relatively scowl free but it's still too loud (for me). | ||

For the last 5 years or so I,ve been running a white bros. E-series with 13 disks and by now the packing is surely gone. It's pretty dang loud but I like it and it's not my daily rider. I thought the engine died one day as I rode over a bridge with those steel grates on it. All the sound went down throught the grates! Wierdest thing I ever experienced! LOL! BC Steve | ||

I repacked my Vance & Hines with the packing kit from American Sport Bike this past spring, wow what a difference. When i took my muffler apart I did not have any packing in it. The new packing quieted my bike down by about half, and i like the sound. Mike | ||

Percy What I have noticed about my SS2R is that it is louder when you are on the bike than when you are following. It seems to radiate noise to rider much more. I have followed my bike at very close range and it's not bad. My two brothers is the other way around, quieter on the bike than behind it. Joe | ||

I've just bought the packing from Al at American Sport Bike as well for my X1 race kit muffler and I found when I pulled it apart that there was no packing at all in it. The packing was a pain in the butt, but the new sound is great. No sharp crackles like before. Still not terribly quiet, just right. |
