So here is what i have decided to do, I have a 2000 M2 i have always liked the look of the S1w... (who hasnt) so i purchased an S1 solo tail, seat, and a taillight and found a salvaged S1 frame to cut apart and graft onto my bikes frame. But a S1 swap cant be complete without the forks, so i just picked up a set of X1 forks on ebay that i plan on polishing. I am going to paint her black and do a custom dual headlight setup with a XB-s flyscreen clip on bars, chrome plated wheels and many other goodies. everyone around here wants to build a buell chopper... not me i want the sickest tube buell my mind can imagine and it is about to begin.

Send BADS1 a message if you need ideas. He did the same thing a few years ago. Sweet ride.

Have fun!

Sounds like a cool project. I'm kind of doing the same thing, but I'm just fitting the slimmer, earlier model M2 tailsection and a small tank to my late model Cyclone. I'm hoping it gives the perception of lightness, because the fat bodywork and Manta tank makes the later M2 look pudgier than the leaner S1, when in reality, it's actually a few pounds lighter.

Djkaplan,

Will the earlier slim tank and seat base simply bolt onto a later model M2 or are there some modifications required.

I have had similar thoughts but am unsure how difficult it might be.

Thanks,

Dave

dave,
It is a simple bolt on.

All you need to do is cut a small notch in the tail to access the fuse panel.

BTW search this board, there is a pic by pic of when I cut and welded my tail.

"I have had similar thoughts but am unsure how difficult it might be."

Believe me, I'm taking the easy way out. I'm just a front fender and seat away from having a totally different looking bike, color and all. The fat bodywork is silver and the slim bodywork is going to be black. I'll be switching back and forth as the mood suits me.

Can't wait to see how duece's M1 turns out. I guess I'll have to call my bike an M2 'Lite'. Same great ride, but less filling.

What years did the M2 come with the smaller tank and slimmer seat and bodywork?

Sounds like my ebay habit will continue, at least until I find a good set of parts to do this retrofit.

Thanks,

Dave

Will S1 or S2 tanks from 97 and 98 also fit a 2002 M2, or must I search for a 97 or 98 M2 only?

I have a slim tank that came off an S1 and it fits my 2000 M2 fine.

hey man, I did this same converstion on my bike just about a month ago thats when someone else on the forums came up with the name m1 for my bike. lol I was just gunna say that you really dont need a s1 frame at all. All that you have to do is raise the subframe area and then a little welding. It was so easy that it would probably be more work to weld on a new sub frame. Just thought I would try to help. -zach

Cyclone2799 post some of the pics of your front end i am curious to see what it looks like, i only have the image in my mind. And as far as the frame goes i am only doing it that way because i sourced a cheap frame... real cheap, and i have seen some of the M2's that have been reworked and i dont like that how on some of them you can see the frame a little bit, IMO this will be easier and cleaner to do, if i had not came accross the frame i would be forced to do it the "other way". blake

Spidey, what's that metal brace for above the primary on the frame? Just that? A brace?

yeah the early tube frame buells had no brace there from the factory, they started adding them stock a little later they help with the rigidity of the frame as far as i understand
