Background.. I sold my 2000 X-1 to a friend earlier this summer and a few weeks ago he layed it down. He is o.k(was wearing gear)but his bike is totaled. I am wondering if I got the race ecm out of it and installed it in my 2002 X-1 would I have to get it remapped and have a tps reset? Both bikes have aftermarket exhaust and fuel injection. Thanks in advance, I really appreciate it. Paul

YES... If your X1 does NOT have the Race ECU you WILL have to have the TPS reset...

Thanks, Will it run well enough to get it somewhere to have that done or do I have to trailer it? Is there someone on this board that lives in WI. that would like to do this for some cash?

I was able to ride my S3 around the block without resetting the TPS after installing a race ECM, but I quickly decided I wasn't crazy enough to try to ride in traffic to the dealer that way. I came home, loaded the bike on my pickup and trucked it to the dealer for a TPS reset.

My suggestion is change the ECM, see how it rides, and then decide. Sometimes the TPS isn't that far off and the bike will run OK; others it's WAY off and the bike will barely run.

There's a thread on here somewhere of people who have the software and who'll reset your TPS for a minimal charge (like a beer or whatever).

Set up an appt with dealer to reset the tps.
Ride you bike to the dealer.
Take the race ecm and a large flattip screwdriver with you.
Before you turn the bike over to them change out the ecm (two screws and a clip)
Let them reset the tps.

What Wardan said. Shouldn't cost much if anything. Maybe 10 bucks?

TPS reset will be in the $50-$70 range.

50.00 - 70.00 for a 5 minute procedure? If they billed you that much, I w/ definitely find a new dealership as they are thieves. Mine didn't even charge me anything.

Thanks for all the info. I received the race ecm and installed it the other night and it works great!! I can ride the bike like nothing ever changed but more red line. I will check into the dealer tps reset around here anyway. Once again thanks for all the help.. this board is GREAT!

My 2000 S3 seemed to run better after I installed the race ECM -- but was even better day and night after the TPS was reset --

I broke down and bought the software to do it myself about $200 and it has paid for itself. I can't justify the dealer charge for resetting the TPS, but anytime you go to the dealer with any drive ability issues that is the first thing they do and charge you.

The software does a bunch of other useful things too.

Where I noticed my problem that the reset fixed was mostly under 2800rpm it would surge and miss. It felt like it was lean.
