Just brought my 2000 X1 Lightning home to add to my collection last night. I live in Arlington, Tx and found one with only 2,800 miles on it. (the tires are hard as a rock!) I didn't get much time to look at it last night before I hit the bed and then rolled into work this morning. Can I get some possibly dumb questions answered?:

1) The headlight if fogged up and the highbeam is out. What bulb does it take and can I get the front glass off to clean the cloud?

2) When I stop, it seems to idle high, around 2k, for a few seconds and then comes down to about 1k. Can I adjust idle or is it all computer controlled?

2) I usually clip the tails of my bikes, but the assembly holding the plate seems pretty bulky to start cutting on. It also holds the lock for the seat. what are my options?

3) I know NOTHING about what filter and fluids i should run in the Buell. All of my other bikes have been European.

4) Any Hooligans in the DFW area?

Thanks in advance. I look forward to learning, and hopefully sharing, with all of you.

1) I think it is a H7 you can remove the whole assembly from the uckey by removing a small philips head screw from the bottom of the housing

2) You can turn down the idle it is on the left hand side it is a knurled metal knob, but it sounds like you need a good TPS reset.

2) three words
American Sport Bike

3) go to your local H-D dealer and get a Sportster or a MY2000 Dyna wide glide filter

as for oil, that is a LOOOOONG discusion that is still going on LOL you can check the knowledge vault and make your own decision.
But being that you are in Texas I wouldrun full synthetic in the motor and run H-D sport trans in the primary/trans

4) check the "Storm Fronts" section for local Hooligans.

You may have to dig a lil bit, but the knowledge vault has pretty much any answer youre searching for. If you cant find it there, dont stress...this board is the absolute best place to be. There are a bunch of knowledge wealthy members that love to share.

Ditto on American Sport Bike. Best service HANDS DOWN

Welcome to the site & congrats on your X1!

my bike did the same thing your idle is doing. but it was because i took my filter off and cleaned out the intake manifold with a rag without taking it completely apart. i must have left a piece of dirt somewhere because after i cleaned it again thoroughly it was back to normal. i would eliminate the spooge from entering your combustion chambers! motors dont need extra garbage to run correctly!

Spidey is right on w/ the fluid choices. Full synthetic in the motor and Sport Trans for gears. Do not run full synthetic in the trans., it is too thin. As for filter- I like K&N. American Sport Bike makes a nice CF undertail that includes mounting point for seat lock. It's pricey. Banke makes a metal version, also at American Sport Bike, thats not as nice but cheaper. The idle issue could be bad seals, maybe intake?. It certainly wouldn't hurt to zero the TPS-start there. The X1 Files is a GREAT site, specifically for X1 owners.

Headlight is an H4 let me know what you find on the fogged up headlight nacel mine is a little fogged up.

The tail section main structure is cast aluminum all of the plastci bolts to it.

high idle is either tps or air leak issue.

Welcone to the madness

WHAT, no pictures?

I have to agree with everyone on pretty much everything so far. American Sport Bike is one heck of a place to get about anything. I am using the CF piece from American Sport Bike and haven't had one issue with it (check profile for pic) I have had it for about 6 years now but it is/was pricey.

That's exceptionally low miles, hope you get lots of enjoyment out of it.

That low of miles could make intake seals harden up and leak.

Do a TPS reset first, then get some carb cleaner and blast those seals to see if the engine bogs or dies.

If you changing bulbs, get a PIAA, they're twice as bright and draw the same power. I've had the Super Plasma for over a year in daily use.

You idle problem is likely intake seals, not a big deal to change and then do a TPS reset.
