Well, I believe I've figured out why I keep feeling every bump in the road. My rear shock absorber (the preload can) has been leaking fluid for about a week. I just noticed that I am not seeing any spots beneath the bike after I run it any longer.

This use to be a common occurance, about a quarter-sized amount of dark fluid beneath the bike. I thought it may just be the Harley engine "marking its territory", but I have a strong feeling it was coming from the shock.

How do I refill the shock with this fluid, or is this potentially an issue I should take the bike into the dealer for warranty work? It is a 2002, and I don't believe the 2002 has any recalls on the rear shock.

Thanks in advance,
Daniel

Well, if its under warranty, by all means...

Shocks aint cheap by any means...

The factory replacements, are something like 500-600 and Penske, etc, much more...

If you have to buy a shock, spend the extra and get a Penske. They're rebuildable; stockers aren't. That, and it's a better shock all around!

But yes, by your description, it is a shock leak you have/had. If you PM me your VIN, I can run it thru the computer and see if you have any recalls open.

Not so, as I had my Showa rebuilt on my S-2 after it puked, cost about 300 done to my weight etc.
That said after Al gave me a screaming deal on a Penske I have that--though it is now 3 yrs old and needs attention.

Racetech rebuild's stock shocks for a few hundred if yer not rich and need it fixed.

All shocks will leak with time due to the design so spend wisely. Having said that I wish I had the money for a Penske or Works shock.
