88 and 90 are the same price, you have to have your cases bored either way....

Go for the gold...

Comepletely happy with my 1250 though...

My question is more on reliability and performance difference between the two. Also if any sugestion on cam that would be helpful.

Hi.
As far as I have read,if you choose the 90" kit it would be better to go with iron jugs. They will stabilize your crankase.Otherwise it is prone to crack at the cylinder base.
For the 88" the case won't be bored that much and you can go with the full aluminium jugs, that will save some weight.
Ralph

P.S. I'm concentrating on doing that big bore adventure too,but I have not made a decision yet. It's such a lot of money.
The prices for the pistons and cylinders are the least positions in that combination.

I am going to buy the big bore kit from revolution. They are $800 (88" and 90"). So i guess ill just go with the 90" just for bragging purposes. Now i just need to know the cam. Ill probably go with the S&S but i don't know the best for my application. I think i want better top end because its going to be a torque monster regardless and im tired of my dad spanking me on the highway. Any suggestions there?

The case spigot bore for the Revperf. 88" and 90" kit is exactly the same so "case weakness" would be the same (actually there is no case weakness. I have done the conversion quite often without any problems).

Ralph,
why are You looking for a 88"/90" kit? Are You not satisfied with Your 1250 kit? I haven´t seen any dyno sheets or red any comments about the power output.

Regards
Alex

Hi Alex.
The case spigot bore for the Revperf. 88" and 90" kit is exactly the same so "case weakness" would be the same (actually there is no case weakness. I have done the conversion quite often without any problems).

You're right at that point but the cast iron cylinders themselves are said to reinforce the case better than full aluminiums or iron lined do.This will help to avoid crankcase breaking,IMHO.

Cast iron construction are said to offer the ultimate in structural integrity and ring seal. This is especially important in the 90ci application as the cylinder wall becomes thin.Testing by NRHS has shown that aluminum is not strong enough to maintain good ring seal in this application, but cast iron works very well.

why are You looking for a 88"/90" kit? Are You not satisfied with Your 1250 kit? I haven´t seen any dyno sheets or red any comments about the power output

Alex,it all worked out very well, even without your help.Haven't had the time for a dyno so far.
This is not what you expected, perhaps hoped? Is is that what you really wanted to know,if your prognosis that I will fail has come true?
Sorry,it has not,but I'm always looking for more raw V2 torque.
In that context and in my eyes, the 88" or 90" upgrade is the logical next step;if one can call this irrational mucho macho approach logical in anyway : )
Although I'm very satisfied with the power, torque and the way my self assembled 1250cc conversion performs, I'm pretty sure bigger will be better.

By the way:

I would more than appreciate your help if you would descent to give me your support, when it actually will come to a 88" or 90" upgrade.
I'm still taking you for being the best Buell related engine builder in Germany!

But unfortunately, the most capricious as well!

To give an example:
during my 1250cc action you were not even willing to overhaul my heads.Do you remember that?I had asked you for.All I wanted were new valve guides, nothing more!No absolution by you that my project will succeed.

Possibly you denied to work on my heads because I told you,I was not going to buy the 1250cc kit,the 536 cams, roller rockers, valve springs and pushrods from your HillBilly friends.Their prices excess any fair profit margin, especially regarding the US dollar/Euro exchange rate, and their source of supply.

Oh,I forgot, you have never been good in being critisized. But before being totally upset about my writing, which is absolutely not my intention, give yourself 5 minutes to think about it.Maybe you will find out that I'm not totally wrong.

Ralph

Ralph,

I was just interested in how the 1250 performed.

With postings like the above You simply disqualify Yourself for any further help.

Further? What do you mean by further?
Never got any from you.

Your response is right the way I expected it will be.

With attitude like that you simply disqualify yourself as a human being and as someone I would ask for help or that I would like to spend my hard earned money for.

P.S.
Again sorry,Jake.
Definitely my last highjacking,I promise.

Jake,

I'm pretty satisfied with the 1250cc but still want more : )

Unfortunately I'm living in a country where most of the self named Buell and Harley gurus think they are irreplaceable and should be worshiped.
They would never give any credit to other engine builders and by no means to any amateurs like me.

And this man is the most self-righteous of all.
You should only have heard what this super guy was lecturing about the inability of Brian or Aaron and any other engine builder we where talking about, when I once met him in person.

For the cams,
I'm running the 536 SE cams which give a good all around torque.
Ralph

Ralph,

You public offense is pretty "low level".

Jake,

You could go with Red Shift cams (like 585). They have pretty low TDC lift numbers which allows the use of bigger intake valves. Additionally You could use a bigger intake manifold and a bigger carb. Remember You will need different valve springs.

Alex
