has anybody ever taken the white faces off of the gauge's on an x1 to see if there were bulbs behind them? obviously there is some type of lighting device behind there. does anyone know if its possible to replace those bulbs with colored ones? Are they just like a vehicle dash bulb? Also does anyone know the correct watt H4 bulb for the headlight or are all H4's the same? Also has anyone noticed a difference with hyper white, or blue h4's? | ||

Yes, there are bulbs behind the gauge face... BUT, you just need to remove the cup, adn they come out from the back... They are a Harely pn, though, dont know it off the top of my head.. I do know, that I havent been able to find them in any auto parts stores... gave up after a while, as, when 2 of them went out, I wanted to replace them with Blue.. The H4, damn, i used to know... BUT, I did put one in mine, it helped, but, not enough for my tastes.. They do keep it on a rack in most HD shops though... Chase | ||

Ltd standard wattage for H4 lamps used on the x1 is 55L / 60H The dash lights are wedge base T 1 1/2 I think. I took them out of the instrument cluster and took them to my local advance auto then got some new ones. **IMPORTANT** the low fuel indicator lamp is a specific wattage for use with a resistance sender in the tank use only that lamp in that place.. Sylviania Silver star h4 lamps seem to be easier to see with. 20.00$ wally world | ||

I have seen higher wattage advertised My 0.02$ think long and hard about it as the wiring has to take more heat and current with higher wattage. the X1 wiring is not particulary robust there.. | ||

the X1 wiring is not particulary robust there.. Been running the 55/100 combo on my X1 for a year now... That should hold up fine.... BUT, check the condition of your wiring.. I tried it, completely prepared to re-wire with heavier wire and relays... Chase} | ||

I ran an after market 55/85 in my S3 for about a year. Didn't last as long as the 55/60. Maybe it was just the manufacture's quality but went back to the 55/60 about three years ago, still working fine. But looking for some driving lights to bolt on. Keep reading the various threads about this but haven't done it yet. Joe | ||

I ran one of those blue high wattage bulbs and my socket melted taking the wires to the little parking lamp and cooked them I'm running a Sylvania "true white" bulb now. I had a few extra marker light bulbs for one of my Jeeps and replaced the backlighting on the tach and speedo with them. Much easier to see. Now I just need to figure out how to pull my high beam indicator bulb without killing it. | ||

I ran one of those blue high wattage bulbs and my socket melted taking the wires to the little parking lamp and cooked them My guess is that any one running a Hi Wattage high beam may get away with it, -- for a while, the wires and connector shell for the h4 element on a buell tuber are not real sturdy... I had to repair the harness as it pulled in to 2 pieces the main harness connector is not beefy either.. After seeing the hid kit this afternoon for under 90$ I am thinking about it real hard. |
