I want to paint or have my bike painted this winter. I have heard a lot of horror stories about bubbling paint, Any prep secrets out there?

I had that painting info Al gathered forwarded to me (thanks Dave). The information fits exactly what I discovered on my own about what paint will work.

If you shoot me an e-mail address, I'll forward the info to you as well. Apparently, PPG products are the way to go.

If ya'll want, I could host this info on my website, and just make a quick link to it...

That way, no, mass emails..

As long as it isnt copyrighted info anyway..

Second, my painter usually works with House of Kolor, PPG, or Dupont, really depends on the application(color, customer desires, etc)...

I am learning to paint as well... but, thats a whole other story..

I've got a formerly decal bubbled tank at home with about 95% of the paint peeled off, fairly soon I'll be trying my hand at repainting it. I switched email systems and sort of displaced any previous paint tips I had saved or sent to me, so any links or tips on primer/paint prep is good to have handy, posted, linked, emailed, it's all good (even if it does get confusing to non-painters).

I'm thinking I'll start off with a pearled paint of some sort, or metallic or flaked, maybe a midnight black pearlized metallic with a colorshifting hue, which is probably how I'll be feeling if I don't get some ventillation in the garage first.

I'd like to have a copy of that e-mail, too. I've got two bubbled tanks that I need to repaint.

I'd like to just do it once. Per tank.

I just had my tank painted about a month ago and got the email about what paint is to be used. The guy who paints my stuff said it is all basic PPG stuff. So don't worry about needing to buy some high dollar paint because it is just over the counter basic stuff.

Make dam sure you use ppg paint and flex agent in the preferably urathane primer. Painter should also wipe these parts with the special PPG plastic parts cleaner. This will keep the chemicals in the plastic from having a reaction with the primer and paint. Thats how you get the bubbles.
