...could they have come up with a worse design?? <sigh>

Rear intake, bottom o-ring pushed out of the plate. I hate to pull the rockerboxes off again just to remove the pushrods and tube... Anyone have any luck with ultrablack RTV? I checked the KV, but not much there on this particular feature of the old XL motor.

I know about the NRHS billet bases, might look into it as a last resort (again, pulling rockerboxes that have been on there for all of 1000 miles is not something I want to do).

Another idea - has anyone put XB pushrod tubes on a tuber? Just wondering....

Can't you pull the tube up enough to get it to reseat?

I have adjustable pushrods and collapsible tubes, I still can't get them out without removing the heads, but I have replaced that O-ring.

Rat-supposedly you can pop the base and reseat the o-ring and slap it all back together again without much problem. My NHRS bases were always leaking with the seals that came with them, so I never had much luck doing this, but it may be different with the original bases. If you do go the route of the NHRS blocks which are very cool looking, and work well, use some new harley seals-as the blue ones are crap IMO.

I had good luck popping the OEM base and reseating with RTV. It worked well for a while, then the rocker box gaskets went and I ended up taking it apart anyway, but the RTV held.

I've got 3 set of the NRHS bases with no leaks at all.
Installation has to be perfect or you will have problems.
If the rings (HD or Blues)slip at all during installation they will not seat properly.
Kind of a pain but they do work well.

I concur with Brad on this one.

I have them on my RS and the first go around I got both blocks to leak. Now both are non leakers....


I thought about the XB route at one point. Not a doable option as the base of them is curved.

Looking at the XBs in the showroom today, they also have a 4 bolt base attachment.
