-------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ to anyone with white bros tuber experience: tonite i discovered that all of the fasteners at the intake (elbow) end of my aluminum can are history. it sure explains the cheesy rattling i've been hearing. were the fasteners rivets or screws (bolts?)? if so,what size? source? is there packing inside that i should replace when i r&r the can for repair? source? anything else i should know?  | ||

fasteners are rivets, had the same experience. replaced them with stainless rivets, they seem to be holding up well. i believe that the rivets work loose once the packing wears away, the muffler requires a fair amount of packing to do right, i had to use 4, 4-stroke repack kits to fill mine to where i was happy. you will see an increase of midrange torque once the packing is replaced. i think they were 3/16" diameter with a 1/8" grip length, i had to use 1/4" rivets on a couple of holes as they had worn oval. note: ss rivets require a large rivet tool, a standard pop riveter will be good for around 4 rivets before it dies, a riveter with 18" long handles installs them like they are aluminum. hope it helps | ||

thanks.....i found a quiet core baffle at motosport made by the bros for the e series. also ordered some silent sport premium packing. i already bought what i thought was a heavy duty riveter, but didn't understand its limitations until looking it up on their website tonite. i have no desire to spend even more on this project,as $85 is a lot to redo a so-so muff. anyway, other than a sheetmetal fabricator, what business would be likely to use a big riveter? i will just pay someone to rivet it for me, instead of buying another gun. thanks for the help...pretty quick service.......love this forum!! |
