yes the engine is worth that much. i have personally seen them for $2500-3000 each. all depends on miles and where the motor is located and where it is listed.

Well, all of the tubers are basically the motor, two wheels, a flyscreen and a seat. Once you take the motor out, there isn't much left. I can see why the prices reflect that. Like on ebay, a frame goes for about $2-300, the rims (if they are marchesini) go for about $150-ish each, the gas tanks typically go for about $40-60, the gage clusters for about $75, etc. I mean, really, the bikes are very spartan in construction. Not like the Japanese bike, where the clip-ons are priced per side and very expensive, the plastics are outrageous. We who work on our own bikes are blessed by these circumstances.

Some guy is there parting out a perfectly good X1 because he claims he can get more for it that way. Shame!

A bottom end rebuild or a top end rebuild cost at a shop will tell you a whole motor that runs in good condition is worth 2000 bucks easy.

This guy actually had 2 identical 99 X1s. I bought his from him early this summer for $5500. It was a little pricey but it was the one i wanted. The one he is selling is his wifes as she is pregnant. The bike i bought was immaculate and i have no reason to believe the other was not the same. I to find it hard to believe he can get a better price for the bike in parts.

I have more than once had the thought it's ironic the bikes are worth more in pieces.

Motor - $2000
PM Wheels - $300 Each (Marchisi already shown)
mint bodywork - $700 to $1600
Seat - $40
Tail - $75
Muffler header - $30
Muffler (assume aftermarket Supertrapp) $70
when so equipped
Crossroads bars - $200
Construction Engineering bar end mirrors - $100
Haven't even gotten into the pegs, Brakes, rotors, cables, intakes and switches everyone always seems to buy up quickly.

X1s draw about $3500 on the used market, super clean sometimes up to $4500.

As noted, we're at $3515 (low end) and still have all the easy sell parts in hand. Now you can see why they are so often parted out.
