I just bought a '99 X1. It has serious hesitation with the throttle open. Usually accelerates a little, then about 1-2 seconds pause before it continues.

Has anyone else experienced this? I read about similar problems but they were on dead posts on other boards.

I took it to a HD dealership (AD farrow) and they pretty much blew me off. but not before keeping the bike for 2 weeks and charging me for an idle control

could be back pressure. when i rode my x1 without the muffler it would do the same thing. i would go full throttle and then after about a second the bike would do its little go,stop,go,stop thing and then after that it was good again. i put the muffler on and no hesitation.

does it do it in all gears> if i remember correctly it only did it to me in 1st, but its been a while since i have rode the bike without a muffler

it does it in every gear.

I'm looking into finding stock headers and exhaust, someone else said the exhaust my be the problem.

It could really be anything. Just guessing, I would lean toward the exhaust or a sensor. I assume you have aftermarket cannister/headers? That by itself would not be a problem, if anything the bike should run better. Run a diagnostic, might do the trick.

This really sounds like a TPS issue to me.
When was the last time it was reset?

I don't know if it was reset when the Vance pipe was put on, I do have stock headers though.

I'm going to call the HD dealership and ask them about reseting it, hopefully they'll be somewhat friendly this time.

Skyliner,

I THINK that a TPS reset will fix your problem.

I had a somewhat SIMILAR problem with my 99X1. TPS reset and now has NO PROBLEMS at all

Matt.

Do you still have a stock ECM on the '99?

I was told that the '99 ECM was garbage b/c it was the first FI year.

Thinking about purchasing the race ECM.

Hey Skyliner,

Get the race ecm you will love it. Once you get it then have them reset your TPS.

Does it do it at a specific rpm?

Mine has the race ecm, pro series exhaust, and force intake and at just below 3000 RPM at WOT it will have a weak spot. Maybe that's what you're feeling. In my case its a slight lean area at that rpm.

If it was tps related it would do it as soon as you roll on from any rpm.
